Spectral characterization of laser-accelerated protons with CR-39 nuclear track detector
2018
CR-39 nuclear track material is frequently used for the detection of protons accelerated in laser-plasma interactions. The measurement of track densities allows for determination of particle angular distributions, and information on the kinetic energy can be obtained by the use of passive absorbers. We present a precise method of measuring spectral distributions of laser-accelerated protons in a single etching and analysis process. We make use of a one-to-one relation between proton energy and track size and present a precise calibration based on monoenergetic particle beams. While this relation is limited to proton energies below 1 MeV, we show that the range of spectral measurements can b…
Electrical distribution substation remote diagnosis and control system
2014
This paper presents the conception, design, set up and realization of a prototype system for telemanagement of a MV/LV substation. The prototype has been developed according to the current standards. This system allows to monitor the status of the MV/LV substation box, of the medium voltage equipment, of the transformer and of the low voltage equipment. In particular, the system acts when some specified events occur. The prototype has been realized by using a DAQ; the software that implement the telemanagement system has been developed in LabVIEW environment. The system allows a remote monitoring of the quantities of interest that is carried out using the TeamViewer software able to establi…

Nonnegative signal factorization with learnt instrument models for sound source separation in close-microphone recordings
2013
Close-microphone techniques are extensively employed in many live music recordings, allowing for interference rejection and reducing the amount of reverberation in the resulting instrument tracks. However, despite the use of directional microphones, the recorded tracks are not completely free from source interference, a problem which is commonly known as microphone leakage. While source separation methods are potentially a solution to this problem, few approaches take into account the huge amount of prior information available in this scenario. In fact, besides the special properties of close-microphone tracks, the knowledge on the number and type of instruments making up the mixture can al…
Rīcībpolitikas pārcelšana: Eiropas Ekonomikas zonas finanšu instrumenta gadījums
2015
Maģistra darba centrālā problēma tiek ietverta darba hipotēzē - Rīcībpolitikas pārnesi Eiropas Ekonomikas zonas finanšu instrumenta kultūras programmu gadījumā regulē donorvalstu Norvēģijas, Lihtenšteinas un Is…
Influenceri kā komunikācijas instruments Latvijas banku komunikācijā
2020
Darba ‘’Influenceri kā komunikācijas instruments Latvijas banku komunikācijā’’ galvenais mērķis ir noskaidrot Latvijas banku praksi, izmantojot influencerus savās sabiedrisko attiecību komunikācijas aktivitātēs, kā arī noskaidrot galvenos iemeslus, kāpēc kādai bankas komunikācijas aktivitātei tiek izmantots tieši šis influenceris un tiek uzskatīts, ka tas ir vislabākais komunikācijas kanāls, lai komunikācija izdotos. Darba pētnieciskā problēma ir noskaidrot, kādi ir galvenie iemesli, kādēļ influenceri tiek piesaistīti banku komunikācijai. Darba teorētiskā daļa balstās uz sabiedrisko attiecību un inflenceru jēdziena izskaidrošanu, sabiedrisko attiecību instrumentu apskatīšana, komunikācijas …
Mapping electron-beam-injected trapped charge with scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy.
2016
Scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM) has been demonstrated as a valuable tool for mapping the optical and optoelectronic properties of materials with nanoscale resolution. Here we report experimental evidence that trapped electric charges injected by an electron beam at the surface of dielectric samples affect the sample-dipole interaction, which has direct impact on the s-SNOM image content. Nanoscale mapping of the surface trapped charge holds significant potential for the precise tailoring of the electrostatic properties of dielectric and semiconductive samples, such as hydroxyapatite, which has particular importance with respect to biomedical applications. The meth…
In the article we will report on the recovery of a Melloni’s optical bench built at the end of 1800 by the “macchinista” Filippo Caliri in the “belle époque” of Palermo. A scientific instrument of particular historical and didactic interest belonging to the collection of Liceo Classi…
Exploring Historical Scientific Instruments by Using Mobile Media Devices
2022
We describe an educational activity that can be completed with mobile media devices in order to understand the working principle of a pair of tuning forks, from the Historical Collection of Physics Instruments of the University of Palermo, and how they were used to explain acoustic interference and beats with the Lissajous optical method. This approach can be used with any tuning fork and it is a valuable teaching strategy that does not require specific laboratory equipment.
The Collection of historical instruments of Acoustics of the University of Palermo
2018
In the Historical Collection of Physics Instruments of the University of Pale…
