L'assurance insolvabilité de l'employeur en France et en Italie

2012

Insurance insolvency of the employer guarantees workers against the risk of non-payment of sums due under the contract of employment, following the failure of their employer. The central concern of this work is the presentation, under a critical angle, of the discipline of this instrument of safeguarding the rights of workers in the laws of Italy and French in the light of Community law, particularly with regard to different methods of determining the claims covered by insurance insolvency

A bibliometric review of takaful literature

2020

Abstract Takaful (Islamic Insurance) achieved only recently a significant volume of academic research, despite its importance in addressing the insurance needs of Islamic societies and economies. We provide a thorough analysis of existing contributions on Takaful through a meta-literature methodology encompassing both a bibliometric (quantitative) and content (qualitative) analysis. By reviewing 69 articles, we aim at providing a rigorous background for the Islamic finance industry, its societies and economies, academic research and policymakers. We identify and review three leading research streams on Takaful: its overview, growth paths and models; governance mechanisms; products/services …

FinTech in Latvia: Status Quo, Current Developments, and Challenges Ahead

2021

FinTech has been in the focus of discussion for quite some time. However, the market share of FinTech companies is still relatively small compared to that of more traditional financial services. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the status quo, current developments, and challenges ahead for the Latvian FinTech sector. We combine three analyses: a political and legal, economic, social, and technological environment (PEST) analysis

Work careers in adults separated temporarily from their parents in childhood during World War II.

2019

Introduction: Traumatic experiences, such as separation from parents in childhood causing early life stress (ELS) may increase the risk of adverse long-term health outcomes and biological age-related changes. This may have an impact on work career. Our aim was to examine long term consequences of ELS due to temporary separation from parents during World War II (WWII) in relation to work career. - Material and methods: The Helsinki Birth Cohort Study comprises 13,345 individuals born in Helsinki, Finland, between the years 1934–1944. From the original cohort, 1781 individuals were identified as being separated temporarily from their parents due to World War II. Information on date and type o…

Incentive and Selection Effects of Medigap Insurance on Inpatient Care

2012

The Medicare program, which provides insurance coverage to the elderly in the United States, does not protect them fully against high out-of-pocket costs. For this reason private supplementary insurance, named Medigap, has been available to cover Medicare gaps. This paper studies how Medigap affects the utilization of inpatient care, separating the incentive and selection effects of supplementary insurance. For this purpose, we use two alternative estimation methods: a standard recursive bivariate probit and a discrete multivariate finite mixture model. We find that estimated incentive effects are modest and quite similar across models. On the other hand, there seems to be very significant …

A data mining approach for grouping and analyzing trajectories of care using claim data: the example of breast cancer

2013

International audience; BACKGROUND: With the increasing burden of chronic diseases, analyzing and understanding trajectories of care is essential for efficient planning and fair allocation of resources. We propose an approach based on mining claim data to support the exploration of trajectories of care. METHODS: A clustering of trajectories of care for breast cancer was performed with Formal Concept Analysis. We exported Data from the French national casemix system, covering all inpatient admissions in the country. Patients admitted for breast cancer surgery in 2009 were selected and their trajectory of care was recomposed with all hospitalizations occuring within one year after surgery. Th…

The association between new onset atrial fibrillation and incident cancer—A nationwide cohort study

2018

A recent analysis showed an association with new onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) and incident cancer among women. We aimed to examine the risk of cancer among patients with NOAF in general population. A retrospective cohort of 5130 patients with NOAF was identified from a random sample of one million subjects between 2005 and 2010 from Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. The standard incidence ratio of incident cancer and hazard ratios were calculated by modeling cumulative incidence with competing risk of death. During a mean follow-up duration of 3.4 years, 330 patients developed cancer. The standard incidence ratio of all malignancies was 1.41 (95% confidence interval 1.…

Single-Target Implicit Association Tests (ST-IAT) Predict Voting Behavior of Decided and Undecided Voters in Swiss Referendums

2016

Undecided voters represent a major challenge to political pollsters. Recently, political psychologists have proposed the use of implicit association tests (IAT) to measure implicit attitudes toward political parties and candidates and predict voting behavior of undecided voters. A number of studies have shown that both implicit and explicit (i.e., self-reported) attitudes contribute to the prediction of voting behavior. More importantly, recent research suggests that implicit attitudes may be more useful for predicting the vote of undecided voters in the case of specific political issues rather than elections. Due to its direct-democratic political system, Switzerland represents an ideal pl…

Users of home-care services in a Nordic welfare state under marketisation: the rich, the poor and the sick

2017

Stricter access to public services, outsourcing of municipal services and increasing allocation of public funding for the purchase of private services have resulted in a marketisation wave in Finland. In this context of a Nordic welfare state undergoing marketisation, this paper aims to examine the use of Finnish care services among older people and find out who are using these new kinds of private services. How wide is their use and do the users of private care services differ from those who are using public services? How usual is it to mix both public and private care services? The questionnaire survey data set used here was gathered in 2010 among the population aged 75 and over in the ci…
