On Whitham and Related Equations

The aim of this paper is to study, via theoretical analysis and numerical simulations, the dynamics of Whitham and related equations. In particular, we establish rigorous bounds between solutions of the Whitham and Korteweg–de Vries equations and provide some insights into the dynamics of the Whitham equation in different regimes, some of them being outside the range of validity of the Whitham equation as a water waves model.

Random Tensor Theory: Extending Random Matrix Theory to Mixtures of Random Product States

We consider a problem in random matrix theory that is inspired by quantum information theory: determining the largest eigenvalue of a sum of p random product states in $${(\mathbb {C}^d)^{\otimes k}}$$ , where k and p/d k are fixed while d → ∞. When k = 1, the Marcenko-Pastur law determines (up to small corrections) not only the largest eigenvalue ( $${(1+\sqrt{p/d^k})^2}$$ ) but the smallest eigenvalue $${(\min(0,1-\sqrt{p/d^k})^2)}$$ and the spectral density in between. We use the method of moments to show that for k > 1 the largest eigenvalue is still approximately $${(1+\sqrt{p/d^k})^2}$$ and the spectral density approaches that of the Marcenko-Pastur law, generalizing the random matrix…

Determination of an empirical law of aluminium and magnesium alloys absorption coefficient during Nd :YAG laser interaction

International audience; Welding laser modelling requires knowledge about relative changes of many thermo-physical parameters involved in the interaction. The absorptivity of the material is one of the most important. In this study, experimental measurements of absorptivity with an integrating sphere on two alloys (aluminium and magnesium) were made. These results were compared with an analytical calculation that takes into account the trapping of the beam by multiple reflections inside the keyhole. Design and analysis of non-linear circuit with tunnel diode for hybrid control systems

Electric circuits with tunnel diode's represent a classical example of dynamic systems with nonlinearities, which feature piecewise negative damping and multiple equilibria and, as consequence, nontrivial trajectories in the state-space. Custom measurement system for memristor characterisation

Abstract A cheap, compact and customisable characterisation system for memristor devices, working between ± 10 V, is presented. SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) simulations are performed to verify the circuit feasibility and a proper software is developed to drive the system. The potentiality of the realised system is tested by performing several electrical measurements on both Cu/HfO2/Pt memristors and two-terminals commercial devices.

The chapter identifies the major claims of the leave-campaign to analyse, whether by doing so, the Brexit proponents will achieve what they campaigned for. Furthermore, the paper explains the functioning of the EEA, exploring the potential changes for the UK, the EU, and the EEA/EFTA.

A fully-digital realtime SoC FPGA based phase noise analyzer with cross-correlation

We report on a fully-digital and realtime operation of a phase noise analyzer using modern digital techniques with cross-correlation. With the advent of system on chip field-programmable gate arrays (SoC FPGAs) embedding hard core central processing unit, coprocessor and FPGA onto a single integrated circuit, the building of sensitive analysis devices for Time & Frequency research is made accessible at virtually no cost and benefits from reconfigurability.
