Tämän kvalitatiivisen tutkielman tavoitteena oli selvittää viimeisen vuosikurssin käyneiden IB-lukiolaisten käsityksiä opiskelusta suomalaisessa IB-lukiossa. Aineiston keruussa käytettiin puolistrukturoituja teemahaastatteluja, ja tutkimusta varten haastateltiin seitsemää suomalaisen IB-lukion oppilasta. Tutkimuskysymykset koostuivat seuraavista aihealueista: IB-lukioon hakeminen ja koulutuksen rakenne, IB-opiskelijaprofiili, englannin kielen rooli koulutuksessa, jatkokoulutus- ja uraodotukset sekä kansainvälisyys. The current article discusses how the increasing student diversity and transformation of work challenge language education at the Finnish universities of applied sciences (UAS). The article highlights some administrative and pedagogical solutions that have been developed at Karelia UAS to enable the progress of diverse students towards professional competence in foreign languages necessitated by the changes in the labour market. Integraation syveneminen ja Euroopan unionin kasvustrategia edellyttävät jäsenmailta kansallisten työ-, talous- ja sosiaalipoliittisten järjestelmien tehokasta kehittämistä, eikä kriittisistä äänenpainoista ole ollut pulaa. Eurooppalaisen ay-liikkeen mukaan EU on asettanut kilpailukyvyn tärkeimmäksi arvokseen ja jättänyt työntekijät unhoon. Ultrasound assisted method to increase soluble chemical oxygen demand (SCOD) of sewage sludge for digestion

The aim of this study was to clarify the possibilities to increase the amount of soluble chemical oxygen demand (SCOD) and methane production of sludge using ultrasound technologies with and without oxidising agents. The study was done using multivariate data analyses. The most important factors affected were discovered. Ultrasonically assisted disintegration increased clearly the amount of SCOD of sludge. Also more methane was produced from treated sludge in anaerobic batch assays compared to the sludge with no ultrasonic treatment. Due to rapid urbanization, the number of wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) has increased, and so has the associated waste generated by them. Sustainable management of this waste can lead to the creation of energy-rich biogas via fermentation processes. This review presents recent advances in the anaerobic digestion processes that have led to greater biogas production. The Sea Urchin sns Insulator Blocks CMV Enhancer following Integration in Human Cells

Insulators are a new class of genetic elements that attenuate enhancer function directionally. Previously, we characterized in sea urchin a 265-bp-long insulator, termed sns. To test insulator activity following stable integration in human cells, we placed sns between the CMV enhancer and a tk promoter up-stream of a GFP transgene of plasmid or retroviral vectors. In contrast to controls, cells transfected or transduced with insulated constructs displayed a barely detectable fluorescence. The aim of this paper is to provide insights into the early stage development of integrated reporting (IR). In particular, its purpose is to investigate whether it might represent a real new mode of corporate reporting or just a way to strengthen other financial and sustainability reports. The paper argues that connectivity of information is crucial to this distinction. Based on previous studies on corporate disclosure and on new research perspectives on IR, this paper shows the preliminary findings of a content analysis of the reports of a selected sample of companies.
