Predicting Adolescents’ Physical Activity Intentions : Testing an Integrated Social Cognition Model
2023
Abstract Background Few adolescents meet guideline levels of physical activity associated with good health, highlighting the need for intervention. Interventions promoting adolescents’ physical activity should be guided by research applying behavioral theory to identify potentially modifiable correlates and associated processes. We applied an integrated social cognition model to identify theory-based constructs and processes that relate to physical activity intentions in a secondary analysis of two samples of Finnish adolescents using a correlational design. Method Participants in the first sample (n = 455) completed self-report measures of social cognition constructs from theory of planned…
A Novel Approach to Identify Candidate Prognostic Factors for Hepatitis C Treatment Response Integrating Clinical and Viral Genetic Data
2015
The combined therapy of pegylated interferon (IFN) plus ribavirin (RBV) has been for a long time the standard treatment for patients infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV). In the case of genotype 1, only 38%–48% of patients have a positive response to the combined treatment. In previous studies, viral genetic information has been occasionally included as a predictor. Here, we consider viral genetic variation in addition to 11 clinical and 19 viral populations and evolutionary parameters to identify candidate baseline prognostic factors that could be involved in the treatment outcome. We obtained potential prognostic models for HCV subtypes la and lb in combination as well as separately. We …
Els horts solidaris, una eina per a la reinserció sociolaboral: el cas de l'Horta de València
2013
Charity gardens are a proposal for social intervention, which may form part of social and labour active inclusion policies, within the structure of the territory, generating a social and economic system. This study examines the model of French garden created in Réseau Cocagne and compares this with the analysis of similar business cases found in Spain. The paper focuses on the importance of using traditional agricultural spaces in peri-urban areas, through being areas where several factors and functions converge, capable of generating social, economic and environmental wealth helping to promote social inclusion.
Postcards and Supasigns : Extending Integrationist Theory Through the Creation of Interactive Digital Artworks
2007
Integrationism is a post-structuralist theory of language and communication. The theory has been applied to a groundbreaking analysis of writing as a form of communication where writing is teased apart from speech and realigned with spatial configurations in general. Although it has many practical applications, this view can be extremely difficult to comprehend when expressed as a very specific form of writing, that is, as written words on paper. A solution to this problem is offered by the creative interaction design of two digital artworks, Postcard From Tunis and Postcards From Writing. The works are interactive multimedia pieces that creatively express the integrationist theory of writi…
Integration Data Model of the Bathymetric Monitoring System for Shallow Waterbodies Using UAV and USV Platforms
2022
Changes in the seafloor relief are particularly noticeable in shallow waterbodies (at depths up to several metres), where they are of significance for human safety and environmental protection, as well as for which the highest measurement accuracy is required. The aim of this publication is to present the integration data model of the bathymetric monitoring system for shallow waterbodies using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV). As part of this model, three technology components will be created: a hydroacoustic and optoelectronic data integration component proposed by Dąbrowski et al., a radiometric depth determination component based on optoelectronic data u…
Status and Prospects of Kanki : An Open Source Cross-Platform Native iRODS Client Application
2016
The current state of development of project Kanki is discussed and some prospects for future development are laid out with reflection on the results of the research IT infrastructure project at the University of Jyväskylä. Kanki is a crossplatform native iRODS client application which was introduced to the iRODS community at the iRODS Users Group Meeting in 2015, and later released as open source. A total of 9 releases have been made, from which the latest 6 have been available in addition to the source code as pre-built binary packages for x86-64 CentOS Linux 6/7 and OS X 10.10+. The Kanki build environment at the University of Jyväskylä is running out of Jenkins continuous integration for…
Venäjänkieliset IT-alan asiantuntijat työyhteisöissä - monikieliset käytänteet, identiteetit ja osallisuuden kokemukset integroitumisessa
2013
This article examines working age Russian-speaking migrants, and their paths in looking for a place in the Finnish work and professional communities. The integration process is examined in three focal settings: 1) aspiration settings in which migrants are preparing to participate in work and professional communities; 2) achievement settings in which migrants have successfully entered work and professional communities, and 3) abandonment settings in which migrants have been marginalized from work and professional communities and have given up their aspirations to integrate into these communities. The data consist of 3 thematic interviews and the analysis of the data is focusing on the inform…
The role of immigrants' self identity in effective integration process into Finland
2016
The purpose of this research is to study the role of immigrants’ identity in the process of effective integration into Finland. The research questions of the study explore (a) individual perceptions of self identity and effective integration into the host society from immigrants’ perspectives, (b) the impact of the integration process on immigrants’ self identity and (c) the identity changes of immigrants during the process of integration into the host society. Winnicott and the (un)integrated self
2023
The capacity to relax and letting one's mind wander is one of the cornerstones of psychoanalysis. In cases where this capacity seems hindered, the reasons are characteristically sought from particular and specific inhibitions: what is thereby taken to be interfered is not the capacity of relaxation but only the activation of this capacity in a particular regard. In contrast to this mainstream way of thinking, Winnicott argues that the capacity for mental relaxation is a developmental achievement and presupposes a safe sense of integration. The present article investigates this dynamism. It clarifies how an integral sense of self arises out of primary unintegration, explains how a well-estab…
