Implementation of local chiral interactions in the hyperspherical harmonics formalism
2021
With the goal of using chiral interactions at various orders to explore properties of the few-body nuclear systems, we write the recently developed local chiral interactions as spherical irreducible tensors and implement them in the hyperspherical harmonics expansion method. We devote particular attention to three-body forces at next-to-next-to leading order, which play an important role in reproducing experimental data. We check our implementation by benchmarking the ground-state properties of $^3$H, $^3$He and $^4$He against the available Monte Carlo calculations. We then confirm their order-by-order truncation error estimates and further investigate uncertainties in the charge radii obta…
Characterization of chromatographic peaks using the linearly modified Gaussian model. Comparison with the bi-Gaussian and the Foley and Dorsey approa…
2017
To characterize column performance in liquid chromatography, several parameters must be obtained from experimental data. These parameters can be computed through the numerical integration of the net signal to calculate the moments after subtraction of the baseline. This requires the establishment of the peak integration limits. The whole process introduces significant uncertainty. For this reason, several alternative procedures have been proposed to measure the area, mean time and variance, based on the assumption that the chromatographic peak can be described with a mathematical function. This allows the calculation of the peak position and variance making use of the values of the experime…
Limits of multi-linear gradient optimisation in reversed-phase liquid chromatography
2005
Abstract The concept of limiting peak purity was applied to quantify the degree of completion of the separation capability of a chromatographic system using multi-linear gradients. The objective was to check whether the complexity of a gradient program deserves be increased to enhance resolution by inserting more linear segments, or on the contrary, no significant improvements can be expected under more complex gradients. A set of 19 isoindole derivatives of primary amino acids was selected to test the performance of isocratic, single linear and multi-linear gradients. Accurate simulated chromatograms were obtained via numerical integration of the general equation of gradient elution, using…
Cerebral Dynamics during the Observation of Point-Light Displays Depicting Postural Adjustments
2017
Objective: As highly social creatures, human beings rely part of their skills of identifying, interpreting, and predicting the actions of others on the ability of perceiving biological motion. In the present study, we aim to investigate the electroencephalographic (EEG) cerebral dynamics involved in the coding of postural control and examine whether upright stance would be codified through the activation of the temporal-parietal cortical network classically enrolled in the coding of biological motion. Design: We registered the EEG activity of 12 volunteers while they passively watched point light displays (PLD) depicting quiet stable (QB) and an unstable (UB) postural situations and their r…

Rethinking Civil Society in Development: Scales and Situated Hegemonies
2016
Ethnic residential segregation is often explained with the claim that ‘immigrants don’t want to integrate—they prefer to stick together with co-ethnics’. By contrast, mixed neighbourhoods are seen as crucial for achieving social cohesion. In line with spatial assimilation theory there is a normative assumption that people interact with those living nearby. From interviews on neighbourhood qualities and locations valued by Oslo residents of Turkish, Somali and Polish backgrounds, we raise questions about the validity of two assumptions: that most immigrants want to live in the same neighbourhoods as co-ethnics; and that they want to live close to co-ethnics because they do not want to integr…
Towards a New European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP): What Benefits of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreements (DCFTAs) for Shared Prosperity a…
2016
This article examines the problem of the ENP countries’ integration with the EU market from two perspectives: the macroeconomic situation as an integral component of the overall transformation process and the integration with the EU markets, and the political economy of the regional integration perspectives of these countries. This methodological approach serves as a tool for integrating a number of main goals related to the EU’s soft power that require the development and support of civil society in the neighbouring states. This contribution aims to offer insight in the implementation of the regional arrangements, taking into consideration new political and economic realities in the Eurasi…
Sophocles strove to bring about a greater integration of the chorus into the dramatic action at the same time as he focused the action …
THE TOPOLOGY OF BASIN BOUNDARIES IN A CLASS OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS
1996
We will develop new methods to determine the topology of the basin boundary in a class of three-dimensional dynamical systems. One approach is to approximate the basin boundary by backward integration. Unfortunately, there are dynamical systems where it is hard to approximate the basin boundary by a numerical backward integration algorithm. We will introduce topological methods which will provide new information about the structure of the basin boundary. The topological invariants which we will use can be numerically computed.
Factors affecting Nigerian teacher educators’ technology integration : Considering characteristics, knowledge constructs, ICT practices and beliefs
2020
To provide a diverse comprehension of teachers' TPACK (Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge) and how TPACK is reflected in practice, this study examined teacher educators' (TEs') conceptions of technology integration. Specifically, the main objective of the study was to investigate the factors influencing Nigerian teacher educators' technology integration using a self-completion survey administered to Nigerian teacher educators from three schools in the southern region of Nigeria. We utilized the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach for the data analysis. Two frameworks—TPACK and Second Information Technology in Education Study (SITES)— guided t…
