Implementing Intellectual Property Policies in a Romanian State University

2018

The paper presents a series of contributions on the possibility of implementing intellectual property policies in a Romanian State University. Starting with the worldwide, well-known examples of universities with a tradition in this field of intellectual property protection, the paper presents practical solutions for the implementation of some intellectual property policies taking into account the mentality which currently exists in Romania on this subject. The study is based on the important experience gained by authors in a European research project involving 15 partners from 9 countries, where the results were remarkable. The University must represent a pole of excellence in research, bu…

Missense variants in DPYSL5 cause a neurodevelopmental disorder with corpus callosum agenesis and cerebellar abnormalities

2021

International audience; The collapsin response mediator protein (CRMP) family proteins are intracellular mediators of neurotrophic factors regulating neurite structure/spine formation and are essential for dendrite patterning and directional axonal pathfinding during brain developmental processes. Among this family, CRMP5/DPYSL5 plays a significant role in neuronal migration, axonal guidance, dendrite outgrowth, and synapse formation by interacting with microtubules. Here, we report the identification of missense mutations in DPYSL5 in nine individuals with brain malformations, including corpus callosum agenesis and/or posterior fossa abnormalities, associated with variable degrees of intel…

Visualization and User Interface Questions about Disability

1999

The visually impaired and the intellectually disabled are not equal groups but both groups benefit partly from the same features. Communication, symbols, pictures, customizing and alternative languages are the key elements in visualization and in user interface design to the both groups.

Headquarters’ Control Capacity and the Choice of R&D Organizational Forms Abroad

2013

International audience; Recently, regarding globalization, the decentralization of R&D activities abroad by multinational companies (MNCs) has become important in developed countries. However, academic research has not given this topic sufficient attention. This paper explains how the efficiency of control and incentive mechanisms may affect the choice of organizational forms by MNCs that decentralize their R&D activities abroad. We identify five main organizational forms: wholly owned green-field subsidiary, wholly owned acquired subsidiary, joint venture, cross-licensing agreements, and unilateral licensing agreements. A questionnaire addressed to the R&D managers of American and European…

INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL REPORTING PRACTICES IN THE NON-PROFIT SECTOR

2011

Chapter 2. A critical analysis of the main scorecard models for measuring and reporting IC in the non-profit sector The book focuses on Intellectual Capital (IC) reporting practices within the non-profit sector. This term is an umbrella term, which includes not only the non-profit (or third) sector in strict terms but also all sectors different from the for-profit sector. Nowadays, in a knowledge-based economy, knowledge is critical to for-profit organizations as it is to non-profit organizations (NPOs). In a new competitive environment, NPOs are requested to manage the existing resources efficiently and effectively and to create, maintain and develop new resources based on knowledge. In th…

Professionals' naming of intellectual disability, past and present practice and rationales

2011

The study illuminates four research questions: What terms for the diagnosis ICD10: F70-79 do Norwegian professionals utilize in their work? Which changes of terminology have professionals experienced? How do professionals explain such changes? Is there a substantive explanation? A semi-structured qualitative interview guide was used on a sample of 41 informants. The main findings are: (1) Different terms are in use; (2) two major changes in naming are observed by the informants: (a) during the 1970s from ‘feeble-minded’ to ‘mental developmental disability’, and (b) after year 2000 from ‘mental developmental disability’ to ‘developmental disability’; (3) professionals are in doubt as to whic…

Care management in a French cohort with Down syndrome from the AnDDI-Rares/CNSA study.

2021

Down syndrome (DS) is a genetic neurodevelopmental disorder. In individuals with DS, a multidisciplinary approach to care is required to prevent multiple medical complications. The aim of this study was to describe the rehabilitation, medical care, and educational and social support provided to school-aged French DS patients with varying neuropsychological profiles. A mixed study was conducted. Quantitative data were obtained from a French multicentre study that included patients aged 4-20 years with diverse genetic syndromes. Qualitative data were collected by semi-structured face-to-face interviews and focus groups. Ninety-five DS subjects with a mean age of 10.9 years were included. Sixt…

“ALL TERMS HAVE A NEGATIVE APPENDIX” PARENTS OF OFFSPRING WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY (ID) AND THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH NAMING THIS DIAGNOSIS – AN INT…

2013

16 parents with offspring with ID were interviewed, using a guide that asks for their experiences of the naming the ID-diagnosis, of different labels that have been used, of how labels have changed during the last half century, of how they explain label-changes, and of whether some of the explanations might be considered substantial. Generally there is an overlap with findings of similar studies among professionals. However, parents add new nuances and emphasize in a more thorough way the substantiality of two causal explanations of the changes: the impact of ethical training and the influence of users
