Francis Osborne. Repubblicanesimo e Ragion di Stato durante la Rivoluzione Inglese

Francis Osborne (1593-1659) was the celebrated author of The Advice to a Son, a very popular book in his days. He also wrote some tracts and pamphlets during the so called “Engagement Controversy”, that led to the publication of many republican writings to support the new regime. Osborn’s intellectual and ideological contribution was peculiar, because his condemn of tyranny was carried on in a political language that used Machiavellian ideas, the republican concept of liberty and the new and well-known expression “reason of state”.
Improving institutions: Effects of small unit size on quality of care of people with severe intellectual disabilities

Two studies analysed the effects of small unit size of six to eight residents on the quality of care in institutions for people with intellectual disabilities. The results showed improvements in small units when compared with larger wards with 10 to 20 residents. Overall, the outcomes were small or modest, and the quality of care remained below standards typically achieved in community environments.

This study examined an intervention that links task significance (one’s job has a positive impact on other people) to burnout symptoms of professionals working in organizations for individuals with intellectual disability. Professionals assigned to the experimental condition participated in teams designed to enhance the positive impact of their work on others (task significance). To do so, teams focused on a task to improve the quality of life of individuals with intellectual disability. Comparing the legal treatment of employee-created intellectual and industrial property from a labour law perspective

Under Spanish law, different intellectual creations, including those by employees, may be dealt with differently from a legal perspective. Works with authors' rights are regulated by the Spanish intellectual property law. In contrast, inventions made under a labour relationship, which may be used for industrial purposes, are regulated by industrial property laws and are thus governed by the Spanish patent and brands law. From a labour law perspective, this paper compares the two bodies of legislation to identify and justify the similarities and differences. Designing Transport Supporting Services Together with Users with Intellectual Disabilities

Transportation is an important yet challenging aspect in terms of mobility for persons with intellectual disabilities (ID). Despite positive implications of designing services with users, persons with ID are rarely given the opportunity to be involved in such design processes. In this action design research (ADR) study we involve persons with ID in the design through observations, photovoice interviews and in a staged, yet naturalistic user enactments on a bus.
