Very High Fascioliasis Intensities in Schoolchildren from Nile Delta Governorates, Egypt: The Old World Highest Burdens Found in Lowlands

2021

Quantitative coprological analyses of children were performed in Alexandria and Behera governorates, Egypt, to ascertain whether individual intensities in the Nile Delta lowlands reach high levels as those known in hyperendemic highland areas of Latin America. Analyses focused on subjects presenting intensities higher than 400 eggs per gram of faeces (epg), the high burden cut-off according to WHO classification. A total of 96 children were found to shed between 408 and 2304 epg, with arithmetic and geometric means of 699.5 and 629.07 epg, respectively. Intensities found are the highest hitherto recorded in Egypt, and also in the whole Old World. A total of 38 (39.6%) were males and 58 (60.…

High-Resolution Photoacoustic Raman-Spectroscopy of Gases

1992

0377-0486; A high-resolution photoacoustic Raman spectroscopy experiment is described. The resolution achieved by using two single-mode pulsed lasers is about 0.0054 cm-1 (full width at half maximum intensity). The experiment was tested first on the v1/2v2 bands of CO2 and gave an increase of at least about one order of magnitude in the signal-to-noise ratio with respect to stimulated Raman spectroscopy at low pressure (ca. 10 Torr almost-equal-to 13 kPa). The sensitivity is also demonstrated by the study of the weak hot band v1 + v2 - v2 of CO2. In both cases, the experimental line shape is well reproduced by taking into account Doppler and collisional effects. A comparison with CARS spect…

Analysis of highly excited 'hot' bands in the SO2 molecule: ν2 + 3ν3 - ν2 and 2ν1 + ν2 + ν3 - ν2

2010

International audience; We set up a variational procedure of assignments of transitions and we applied it to the analysis very weak 'hot' bands, v(2) + 3v(3) - v(2) and 2v(1) + v(2) + v(3) - v(2), of the SO2 molecule. As the first step of the study, the 'cold' bands, 3v(3) and 2v(1) + v(3), are re-analysed and transitions belonging to those bands are assigned up to the values of quantum numbers J(max.) = 60, K-a(max.) = 19, and J(max.) = 69, K-a(max.) = 20 for the bands 3v(3) and 2v(1) + v(3), respectively. After 'cleaning' the experimental spectrum from transitions belonging to the 3v(3) and 2v(1) + v(3) bands, a variational procedure was used that allowed us to assign 230 and 115 transiti…

Global analysis of the high resolution infrared spectrum of methane 12CH4 in the region from 0 to 4800 cm-1

2009

International audience; We report the global analysis of methane (12CH4) lines from high resolution rovibrational spectra including accurate line positions and intensities in the region 0–4800 cm−1. This covers four polyads: The Ground State Monad (rotational levels), the Dyad (940–1850 cm−1, 2 vibrational levels, 2 sublevels), the Pentad (2150–3350 cm−1, 5 vibrational levels, 9 sublevels) and the Octad (3550–4800 cm−1, 8 vibrational levels, 24 sublevels) and some of the associated hot bands (Pentad−Dyad and Octad−Dyad). New Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra of the Pentad and Octad regions have been recorded with a very high resolution (better than 0.001 cm−1 instrumental bandwidth,…

Preliminary analysis of CH3D from 3250 to 3700 cm(-1)

2006

International audience; The infrared spectrum of CH3D from 3250 to 3700 cm(-1) was studied for the first time to assign transitions involving the nu(2) + nu(3), nu(2) + nu(5), nu(2) + nu(6), nu(3) + 2(nu 6) and 3 nu(6) vibrational states. Line positions and intensities were measured at 0.011 cm(-1) resolution using Fourier transform spectra recorded at Kitt Peak with isotopically enriched samples. Some 2852 line positions (involving over 900 upper state levels) and 874 line intensities were reproduced with RMS values of 0.0009 cm(-1) and 4.6%, respectively. The strongest bands were found to be nu(2) + nu(3) at 3499.7 cm(-1) and nu(2) + nu(6) at 3342.5 cm(-1) with integrated strengths, respe…

CS 29497-004 abundances

2017

We report an abundance analysis for the highly r-process-enhanced (r-II) star CS 29497-004, a very metal-poor giant with solar system Teff=5013K and [Fe/H]=-2.85, whose nature was initially discovered in the course of the HERES project. Our analysis is based on high signal-to-noise ratio, high-resolution (R~75000) VLT/UVES spectra and MARCS model atmospheres under the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium, and obtains abundance measurements for a total of 46 elements, 31 of which are neutron-capture elements. As is the case for the other ~25 r-II stars currently known, the heavy-element abundance pattern of CS 29497-004 well-matches a scaled solar system second peak r-process-elemen…
