<title>Phase conjugation properties of a-As-S-Se films</title>
2006
Light wavefront inversion (phase conjugation) in a-As-S-Se films has been studied experimentally. Phase conjugation (PC) of plane and spherical waves is carried out in a-As40S15Se45 films using degenerate four-wave-mixing (DFWM) geometry at 633 nm. In the plane wave case simultaneous PC efficiency and DE measurements have been made versus exposure time, light intensity and holographic grating period. The maximal PC efficiency was 2.3% and the minimal PC specific recording energy was 2 J/(cm2%) whereas the maximal DE was 0.9% and the minimal specific hologram recording energy was 10 J/(cm2%). The optimal grating period was 2 μm. When compared to a-Se films a-As-S-Se films exhibit lower PC ef…
Field-free molecular alignment for measuring ionization probability
2007
International audience; We have shown in a recent letter (Loriot et al 2006 Opt. Lett. 31 2897) the possibility of determining the ionization probability of linear molecules by using an all-optical technique that takes advantage of post-pulse molecular alignment. To that end, we have implemented a ‘cross-defocusing' technique producing a signal sensitive to both alignment and ionization. The analysis of the signal provides a quantitative measurement of the ionization probability calibrated with molecular alignment. In the present work, the method is discussed in more detail and applied to the measurement of the ionization probability of N2 as well as to the determination of the ionization r…
Phase evolution of Peregrine-like solitons in nonlinear fiber optics
2019
Optical fiber systems are well-known to provide convenient platforms in which one may investigate a large variety of fascinating fundamental nonlinear coherent structures such as solitons or self-similar patterns. Interestingly, one of the major conclusions of the studies dealing with extreme-value fluctuations is that the temporal and spectral characteristics of localization processes can be well described in terms of solitons over finite background and in particular in terms of Peregrine soliton (PS) [1]. Whereas the longitudinal evolution of the temporal and spectral intensity of the PS have been characterized in detail [2], much less attention has been experimentally devoted to the evol…
Pulsating Solitons in Mode-Locked Fibre Lasers
2017
International audience; We report on our direct experimental observation of a new regime of operation of passively mode-locked fibre lasers where the laser oscillator generates pulsating solitons with extreme ratios of maximal to minimal intensities in each period of pulsations. The soliton spectra also experience large periodic broadening and compression. Spatio-temporal intensity and dispersive Fourier-transformation measurements enable us to capture such transient dynamics in real time.
All-Fibered High-Quality 20-GHz and 40-GHz Picosecond Pulse Generator
2011
International audience; In this work, we investigate the generation of 20 and 40 GHz pulse trains by nonlinear compression of an initial beating in a cavity-less optical-fiber-based configuration. High temporal stability is obtained by generating the sinusoidal beating by means of an intensity modulator driven by an external clock. The residual timing jitter induced by the RF phase modulation is then reduced by managing the cumulated dispersion of the compression line whereas complete polarization stabilization is obtained thanks to a modified setup including a Faraday rotator mirror. Finally a high-quality 160 Gbit/s signal is generated from our low duty-cycle 40 GHz pulse source thanks to…
Optimization of field-free molecular alignment by phase-shaped laser pulses
2007
We theoretically demonstrate the optimization of field-free molecular alignment by phase-shaped femtosecond laser pulses. The effect is assessed in ${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ at $T=60\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$ under realistic conditions of intensity and pulse shaping. The spectral laser phase is sampled through 128 control parameters and a self-learning evolutionary algorithm combined with a nonperturbative regime calculation is used in order to design the specific phase that maximizes the degree of alignment. The postpulse molecular alignment appears significantly enhanced compared to a Fourier-transform-limited pulse of same energy. The analysis of the target state reveals that the so…
Control of nonlinear instabilities in Bessel beams using shaped longitudinal intensity profiles
2017
International audience; We show that tailored longitudinal intensity shaping of a non-diffracting Bessel beam can strongly reduce four wave mixing induced oscillations and stabilize nonlinear propagation at ablation-level intensities
Monte Carlo Analysis of Voltage-Current Characteristic Nonlinearity and Harmonic Generation in Submicron Semiconductor Structures
2006
Using a multiparticles Monte Carlo technique, we investigate the dependence of the nonlinear carrier dynamics in GaAs n+nn+ structures operating under very intense sub-terahertz signals from some process parameters as: i) the frequency and the intensity of the excitation signal and ii) the length of the n region
Four-wave-mixing coherent oscillator with frequency shifted feedback and misaligned pump waves.
2009
The effect of the pump waves misalignment on the oscillation spectra and oscillation intensity of a semilinear photorefractive oscillator is studied numerically and compared with the results of the experiment performed with a KNbO3:Fe,Ag crystal.
Vortex beam generation and other advanced optics experiments reproduced with a twisted-nematic liquid-crystal display with limited phase modulation
2016
In this work we propose the use of twisted-nematic liquid-crystal spatial light modulators (TN-LC-SLM) as a useful tool for training students in the manipulation of light beams with phase-only masks. In particular, we focus the work on the realization of phase-only gratings and phase-only spiral phases for the generation of vortex beams, beams carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM). Despite the extensive activity in this field, its experimental implementation for educational purposes is limited because it requires the use of very expensive high-resolution liquid-crystal on silicon (LCOS) SLMs. Here, we show that a low-cost experimental implementation can be done with older TNLC technology.…
