Effective interaction method for hyperspherical harmonics
2004
Abstract The effective interaction hyperspherical harmonics (EIHH) method [1] is outlined. Recent extensions of the approach are discussed. Results for binding energies and radii of various p-shell nuclei are shown.
Final State Interaction Effects in 3He(e ,e'p)
2003
Abstract Asymmetries in quasi-elastic 3 He ( e → , e ′ p ) have been measured at a momentum transfer of 0.67 (GeV/ c ) 2 and are compared to a calculation which takes into account relativistic kinematics in the final state and a relativistic one-body current operator. With an exact solution of the Faddeev equation for the 3 He -ground state and an approximate treatment of final state interactions in the continuum good agreement is found with the experimental data.
Neutrinoless double electron capture as a tool to measure the electron neutrino mass
1983
Abstract A nucleus (Z, A) may capture two atomic electrons to become (Z − 2, A). For Majorana neutrinos this may occur with no neutrino emission, the process is a virtual mixing of the parent atom and the daughter atom with two electron holes. The process becomes real as the daughter atom de-excites. In some cases where the daughter nucleus is excited, the neutrinoless decay may be enhanced by its proximity to a virtual resonance. We identify the 112 Sn → 112 Cd transition as a good case. The no-neutrino lifetime for mν = 30 eV ranges from 1022 to 1027 years as a function of the insufficiently well determined distance to resonance. The signatures of the two- or no-neutrino modes are very di…
Evolution of deformation in the neutron-rich Zr region from excited intruder state to the ground state.
1994
Strong evidence for the existence of previously postulated deformed excited states in $^{98}\mathrm{Zr}_{58}$ has been obtained by an accurate measurement of the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\rho}}}^{2}$(${0}_{3}^{+}$\ensuremath{\rightarrow}${0}_{2}^{+}$) value for the decay of the second excited ${0}^{+}$ state at 1436 keV. In the neighboring isotope $^{99}\mathrm{Zr}_{59}$, at the edge of the region of strong ground-state deformation, evidence is found for a rotational band built on the state at 614 keV. Systematics of the excitation energies of the deformed states in Zr nuclei and their Sr neighbors show that the apparent sudden onset of deformation is explained by the steady lowering of a stro…
Neutron Fermi liquids under the presence of a strong magnetic field with effective nuclear forces
2009
Landau's Fermi liquid parameters are calculated for non-superfluid pure neutron matter in the presence of a strong magnetic field at zero temperature. The particle-hole interactions in the system, where a net magnetization may be present, are characterized by these parameters in the framework of a multipolar formalism. We use either zero- or finite-range effective nuclear forces to describe the nuclear interaction. Using the obtained Fermi liquid parameters, the contribution of a strong magnetic field on some bulk magnitudes such as isothermal compressibility and spin susceptibility is also investigated.
pp→jje±μ±ννandjje±μ∓ννatO(αem6)andO(αem4αs2)for the study of the quartic electroweak gauge boson vertex at CERN LHC
2006
We analyze the potential of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to study the structure of quartic vector-boson interactions through the pair production of electroweak gauge bosons via weak boson fusion $qq\ensuremath{\rightarrow}qqWW$. In order to study these couplings we have performed a partonic level calculation of all processes $pp\ensuremath{\rightarrow}jj{e}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\nu}$ and $pp\ensuremath{\rightarrow}jj{e}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{\mp}}\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\nu}$ at the LHC using the exact matrix elements at $\mathcal{O}({\ensuremath{\alpha}}…
Unifying left–right symmetry and 331 electroweak theories
2017
We propose a realistic theory based on the $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes SU(3)_R \otimes U(1)_{X}}$ gauge group which requires the number of families to match the number of colors. In the simplest realization neutrino masses arise from the canonical seesaw mechanism and their smallness correlates with the observed V-A nature of the weak force. Depending on the symmetry breaking path to the Standard Model one recovers either a left-right symmetric theory or one based on the $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)}$ symmetry as the "next" step towards new physics.
One-loop calculation of the oblique S parameter in higgsless electroweak models
2012
We present a one-loop calculation of the oblique S parameter within Higgsless models of electroweak symmetry breaking and analyze the phenomenological implications of the available electroweak precision data. We use the most general effective Lagrangian with at most two derivatives, implementing the chiral symmetry breaking SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R -> SU(2)_{L+R} with Goldstones, gauge bosons and one multiplet of vector and axial-vector massive resonance states. Using the dispersive representation of Peskin and Takeuchi and imposing the short-distance constraints dictated by the operator product expansion, we obtain S at the NLO in terms of a few resonance parameters. In asymptotically-free gauge …
Test of CP invariance in vector-boson fusion production of the Higgs boson in the H → ττ channel in proton–proton collisions at s=13TeV with the ATLA…
2020
A test of CP invariance in Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion is performed in the H → ττ decay channel. This test uses the Optimal Observable method and is carried out using 36.1 fb−1 of √s = 13 TeV proton–proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Contributions from CP-violating interactions between the Higgs boson and electroweak gauge bosons are described by an effective field theory, in which the parameter ˜ d governs the strength of CP violation. No sign of CP violation is observed in the distributions of the Optimal Observable, and ˜ d is constrained to the interval [−0.090, 0.035] at the 68% confidence level (CL), compared to an expected interval …
Neutrino electron scattering and electroweak gauge structure: Future tests
1997
Low-energy high-resolution neutrino-electron scattering experiments may play an important role in testing the gauge structure of the electroweak interaction. We propose the use of radioactive neutrino sources (e.g. $^{51}$Cr) in underground experiments such as BOREXINO, HELLAZ and LAMA. As an illustration, we display the sensitivity of these detectors in testing the possible existence of extra neutral gauge bosons, both in the framework of E_6 models and of models with left-right symmetry.
