Mobile phones, identity and discursive intimacy

This paper deals with the sociocultural effects of mobile phones in Philippine society. In particular it looks at how mobile phones have affected notions of identity and the rise of the sexual subject. It also deals with the political possibilities and implication of this new communicative technology in a society with previously poorly developed telephonic and other communicative technologies. Mobile phones allow absent subjects to exercise a daily presence in their communities of origin. This absent presence generates virtual subjects interacting primarily via the mobile phone.

This paper presents the interdisciplinary H2020 SILKNOW project coordinated by the Universitat de València with researchers from the ICT and SSH fields. SILKNOW is a three-year project funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 Programme under the two-stage call SC6-CULT-COOP-09 'European cultural heritage, access and analysis for a richer interpretation of the past'. The consortium has a total of nine partners from six different European countries (Spain, France, Germany, Slovenia, Poland and Italy). Interactive multiobjective optimization methods operate iteratively so that a decision maker directs the solution process by providing preference information, and only solutions of interest are generated. These methods limit the amount of information considered in each iteration and support the decision maker in learning about the trade-offs.
