Earth resistance measurements in urban contexts: Problems and possible solutions
2017
Both EN 50522 and IEEE Std. 81 propose the Fall of Potential Method (FPM) to carry out the measurement of the resistance to earth of an Earthing System (ES). However, in urban areas, the recommended distances between the ES and auxiliary electrodes are not easy to respect, due to the presence of buildings and tarmac. Moreover, unknown buried metallic parts, as well as the interconnection among the ESs made by the Distributor System Operator, could modify the earth potential profile of the area, affecting the measurement results. In this paper, the issues that could affect the measurement result if FPM is used in an urban context are presented. A parametric analysis, carried out with Comsol …
Towards Ecosystemic Stance in Finnish Public Sector Enterprise Architecture
2019
Governments and organizations in both public and private sector are operating in fields of ever-growing uncertainty and complexity. To study this complex environment, the concept of ecosystems has been suggested, interpreting organizations as intertwined systems among layers of evolving ecosystems. While offering possibilities, operating in an ecosystemic environment might prove to be challenging, and the change from traditional governance structures might be difficult to manage, requiring holistic yet detailed view. Enterprise Architecture (EA) has been an interest of academics and practitioners for few decades, offering one of the most prominent solutions to managing complex organizations…
MODELING MANAGERIAL ACTIVITY, A CHALLENGE OR A NEED INTO THE INTERCONECTED ECONOMIC SPACE
2009
In the European economic area, which becomes more and more interconnected, the management system provides ways of obtaining a performance which, on changing the size of the firm, sometimes prove to be inadequate. During that lapse of time from triggering the action when the results can be measured should be as small continuously decreasing. The information required to be used in the decision support are required more avid. The manager will use different models for measurements of indicators of discrete evaluation, but it proves that not to be the best solution. Only the availability of this information will enable them to make better decisions, and by changing the way of how the decision ma…
A Dynamic Electrical Scheme for the optimal reconfiguration of PV modules under non-homogeneous solar irradiation
2012
This paper presents a strategy for the maximization of the output power of photovoltaic (PV) systems under non homogeneous solar irradiation by means of automatic reconfiguration of the PV arrays layout. The innovation of the proposed approach is the employment of a simple Dynamic Electrical Scheme (DES), allowing a large number of possible modules interconnection, to be installed between the PV generator and the inverter. The models of the PV generator and of the DES have been realized and simulated with Simulink (Dynamic System Simulation for MATLAB). The attained experimental results appear to be quite interesting in terms of the attainable benefit in power and thus energy terms. The lim…
The Human and Non-human Interconnectedness in Three Chinese Contemporary Artists
2021
Today, we live in an era known as the Anthropo cene. The interconnectedness between humans and other living entities and environments is an essential part of the theme of the Anthropocene and a central concern in contemporary culture and art. Through the emphasis of the role of non human agents, new materialism and posthuman ism radically problematize the binaries of sub ject/object, human/nonhuman, cultural/natural, and mind/body, and challenge the superiority of the human. Although both Chinese and Western scholars widely acknowledge that Chinese tradi tional culture and art are deeply based on less anthropocentric modes of thinking, the contem porary Chinese artists’ expression of the in…
Patterns of university teachers’ approaches to teaching, professional development and perceived departmental cultures
2019
Many studies have been conducted about academics’ approaches to teaching, professional development and perceived departmental culture, but their interconnectedness has been considered to a lesser extent. The research presented here examined these patterns comparatively by disciplinary fields and years of teaching experience. Three inventories were filled in by 1141 academics from one Finnish and two Hungarian universities. Based on a hierarchical cluster analysis, four patterns emerged: (1) Experimenters with diverse teaching approaches; (2) Experimenters perceiving their department’s culture as most supportive and collaborative; (3) Individualistic knowledge-focused teachers; and (4) Stude…
The Trap of Proximity Violence. Research and Insights into Male Dominance and Female Resistance
2020
This book aims at shifting the emphasis from a general vision of gender-based violence to a more opaque, yet equally destructive one, that related to "proximity violence". The investigative tension of this book aims at bringing to light the crevasses where violence lurks ready to return in disguise as well as the lairs where it hides. Like a whirlwind, violence appears in all its destructive might and disappears. Precisely because violence is of a proxemic kind it is hard to position with respect to those who wish to objectify it. Its screens are many and the causes that feed it are endowed with a good dose of relational and lexical ambiguity. Because it is profoundly unjust, unfair, wrong,…
A study of the behaviour of earth electrodes connected together in resonant earthed neutral systems
2005
Inside urban areas the earth electrodes of the MV/lv substations are often electrically connected together so as to form a single extended earthing system. The advantages of the realization of an extended earthing system are the reduction of the current that each substation earth electrode injects in the soil during the fault and a better uniformity of the voltages to earth inside the urban area. In previous works, models for the study of extended earthing systems have been proposed. These models were valid for the case of single-line-to earth fault in isolated neutral MV networks. In this paper, the extended earthing system is analyzed in the case of a resonant earthed neutral MV network. …
