Teaching scientific method to primary school pupils by using the example of adaptation of secondarily aquatic animals to the marine environment

2021

Abstract Science classes in public schools are usually strictly linked to several subjects and taught by reference to the reading-listening model. Non-formal educational institutions and events such as ‘children universities’ and science fairs (and to some degree also some private schools) implement elements of interdisciplinary teaching of science and learning through experiments and the use of scientific methods. Workshops conducted within non-formal educational structures prove that only is this method engaging and understandable to primary school pupils, it also is possibly much more effective than the traditional learning style for coding information and explaining common misconception…

BIO-SYSTEMS AS SELF-ORGANIZING QUANTUM SYSTEMS

2018

This book belongs to a series of online books summarizing the recent state Topological Geometrodynamics (TGD) and its applications. TGD can be regarded as a unified theory of fundamental interactions but is not the kind of unified theory as so called GUTs constructed by graduate students at seventies and eighties using detailed recipes for how to reduce everything to group theory.

Spin-Mediated Consciousness Theory

2004

A novel theory of consciousness is proposed in this paper. We postulate that consciousness is intrinsically connected to quantum spin since the latter is the origin of quantum effects in both Bohm and Hestenes quantum formulism and a fundamental quantum process associated with the structure of space-time. That is, spin is the “mind-pixel.” The unity of mind is achieved by entanglement of the mind-pixels. Applying these ideas to the particular structures and dynamics of the brain, we theorize that human brain works as follows: Through action potential modulated nuclear spin interactions and paramagnetic O2/NO driven activations, the nuclear spins inside neural membranes and proteins form var…

A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE HARD PROBLEM OF CONSCIOUSNESS USING MULTIDIMENSIONAL APPROACH

2012

In this work a new solution to the hard problem of consciousness using multidimensional approach [1-3] is proposed. It is shown that our perceptions may be interpreted as elastic oscillations of a two dimensional membrane with closed topology embedded in our brains. According to the model our universe is also a three dimensional elastic membrane embedded into the higher dimensional space-time. The model allows us to create a unified world picture where physical and perceptual aspects of the reality are complementary. We can observe our 2d self-membranes through our perceptions, which are encoded in elastic oscillations of the elastic membrane. According to the theory, elastic membranes occu…

Ritorno al quartiere

2011

SCIENTIFIC STUDIES FOR THE RESTORATION OF A WOOD PAINTING OF THE GALLERIA INTERDISCIPLINARE REGIONALE DELLA SICILIA - PALAZZO MIRTO DI PALERMO

2016

The Ritratto muliebre, referring to Venus, is a panel painting, oil on wood, attributed to unknown artist and probably dated to the second half of 16th century, today conserved in the Galleria Interdisciplinare Regionale della Sicilia—Palazzo Mirto of Palermo. The aim of this research was to assess the techniques used to decorate the wooden painting and to verify the state of conservation of the artwork's materials but also to identify the previous treatments. This study was the essential condition to plane and perform the correct restoration. For this reason, an integrated analytical approach based on the use of non-invasive and micro-invasive techniques was used, with the aim to obtain a …

Data for: Crop specific algorithms trained over ground measurements provide the best performance for GAI and fAPAR estimates from Landsat-8 observati…

2021

This dataset encompasses a large number (> 700) of in-situ observations over elemantary sampling units (about 20m2) of LAI (effective and actual), fAPAR and fraction of vegetation cover (fCover) collected over a network of agricultural sites during the ImagineS project (http://fp7-imagines.eu/) in the period 2013-2016. The ground dataset was collected with digital hemispherical photography (DHP), LAI2200, and AccuPAR devices following well stablished protocols in agreement with CEOS LPV good practices. The ground data is complemented with concomitant Landsat-8/OLI observations, the sun zenith angle at the acquisition and the NDVI. This results in a unique database to calibrate and valida…
