2008 is a year in which the world’s economical, financial and even political systems are going through unprecedented turmoil and earth-shaking transformations. Yet, it seems that nothing has changed in Science except that many scientists are sadly loosing there jobs and/or funding. Religion also seems to be stagnant with the exceptions that various hastened prophecies of 2012 are flourishing and charitable contributions are in drastic declines. Under these historical, uncertain, sad but hopeful circumstances, it is appropriate and even urgent that we further reflect on the state of Science and Religion. This is evident in the many valuable scientific and technological improvements being implemented through projects financed by research institutions, universities and private companies. To make this renewed progress effective however, it is necessary to promote the creation of interdisciplinary research teams with different skills, to carry out new experiments and to define new methodologies and protocols.

L’obiettivo è di documentare capillarmente l’intero patrimonio toponimico nella forma popolare (che affianca quella documentata e cartografata). Orientēšanās ir gan individuālais, gan komandu sports. Kā viens no veselību veicinošiem izturības sporta veidiem tas bija un joprojām ir cieņā arī Latvijas Universitātē. Laikposmā no 1963. līdz 2008. gadam aktivitātes šajā jomā organizēja LU Orientēšanās sporta sekcija. Rakstā sniegts ieskats orientēšanās sporta vēsturē saistībā ar Latvijas Universitātes simtgadi un "Universitātes sporta" 90 gadu jubileju.

Airēšana Latvijas Universitātē

Airēšanas sporta pirmsākumi Latvijā meklējami 19. gadsimta vidū, kad Rīgā izveidojās vairāki baltvācu airētāju pulciņi jeb airēšanas draugu kopas. Nozīmīgākais no tiem Latvijas airēšanas vēsturē bija Rīgas Airētāju klubs (RAK) – ir ziņas, ka pulciņš ar šādu nosaukumu Rīgā darbojies jau 1852. gadā. Pirmās lielākās sacensības starp airēšanas draugu kopām Rīgā notikušas 1957. gadā, un to dalībnieki sacentušies četrās pārcēlāju laivās. Dažādi avīžraksti sniedz priekšstatu par to, kā tolaik izprata airēšanas sportu – tas bija plašs daudzpusīgu izpriecu klāsts. Airēšana tradicionāli daudzās valstīs ir saistīta ar universitātēm un studentiem. Līdz ar to nav nekāds brīnums, ka paši pirmie šī sporta…
