Retrospective Data Analysis of Anterior Cervical Discectomies and Fusion Without Plate and Screws

2019

Abstract Surgical intervention in cervical disease can relieve neurological symptoms and improve life quality. This study aimed to analyse retrospective data of microscope-assisted anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) surgeries. The retrospective study was carried out at the ORTO clinic, Rīga, Latvia, from 2013 to 2017. Data from 198 patients were extracted retrospectively. Data on patient gender, age, diagnosis, extent of operation, type of cage and the overall height of the implants were used. Comparative analysis was carried out with the SPSS 22 software. P < 0.05 represented statistical significance. During the study period, 198 elective ACDF were carried out with increasin…

The Intraday Interest Rate: What's that?

2015

We study the intraday interest rate in a CCP-based GC pooling repo market and its key determinants. Since collateral used in this market is identical to collateral eligible for the daylight overdraft facility of the Eurosystem, any intraday rate in this market cannot be a result of collateral constraints keeping banks from using the overdraft for arbitrage. Nevertheless, we find that in the crisis period a statistically and economically significant intraday spread (up to 60 basis points) prevailed that was only somewhat mitigated by the ECB's unconventional monetary policy measures. Our results show that this spread was mainly determined by the market liquidity of the repo market, suggestin…

Improvement of the Valencia region ultraviolet index (UVI) forecasting system

2012

The CEAM Foundation (Valencia, Spain) has developed an operational ultraviolet index (UVI) forecasting system based on the Santa Barbara DISORT Atmospheric Radiative Transfer (SBDART) model. The main objective of this system is to provide the general public with a tool to minimize the impact of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can cause important human health problems. The system presented in this paper has been developed in collaboration with the Environment Department of the Regional Government of Valencia, and it replaces the one running until 2007. The new system substitutes the previously used Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) observed data with the total ozone column data forecasted …

Glosa do wyroku Naczelnego Sądu Administracyjnego z dnia 8 maja 2018 r., II OSK 1357/17 – aprobująca

2019

The judgment of the Supreme Administrative Court of 8 May 2018 concerns the issue of relations of property rights to public interest, in connection with the resolution of the commune council, regarding the creation of a culture park. The resolution introduces a specific public-law regime in a given area, taking into account the general needs, which simultaneously causes interference in the sphere of subjective rights, in particular through a system of prohibitions and restrictions. The judgment is based on the conviction that there is a need in the public space to protect cultural values. In the aspect of the constitutional principle of proportionality, it is also important to consider the …

El tipo de cambio real dólar-euro y el diferencial de intereses reales

2006

This paper investigates whether threshold effects exist in the relationship between dollar-euro real exchange rate and real interest differential, over the period January 1984 to December 2004. We specify a three-regime threshold model and the results provide evidence that there is no threshold effect in the short term, but the nonlinear behaviour of real exchange rate implies threshold effect in the long term. On the other hand, the nonlinearity into the behaviour of real exchange rates can be modelled by a Band-TAR which implies a symmetric response to the real interest differential outside the bank. Finally, into the threshold band the behaviour of real exchange rate is near to follow a …

Assessment of cortical damage in early multiple sclerosis with quantitative T 2 relaxometry

2016

T2 relaxation time is a quantitative MRI in vivo surrogate of cerebral tissue damage in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. Cortical T2 prolongation is a known feature in later disease stages, but has not been demonstrated in the cortical normal appearing gray matter (NAGM) in early MS. This study centers on the quantitative evaluation of the tissue parameter T2 in cortical NAGM in a collective of early MS and clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients, hypothesizing that T2 prolongation is already present at early disease stages and variable over space, in line with global and focal inflammatory processes in MS. Additionally, magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) mapping was performed for furt…

PS-110 Extent and diversity of day-to-day clinical pharmacists’ interventions in hospitals

2015

Background Clinical pharmacy services (CPS) are known to improve medication safety and patients’ clinical outcome. However, in the majority of the European countries their implementation is low and there are no nationwide reports about the nature of clinical pharmacists’ interventions (CPIs) in European hospitals outside the UK. Purpose To evaluate both the extent and diversity of data about national hospital CPIs nationwide. Material and methods Datasets from ADKA-DokuPIK, an anonymous and voluntary German database for the documentation of hospital CPIs with >500 registered users, which were entered between 01/2009 and 12/2012, were analysed descriptively. Results In total, 27,610 CPIs wer…

Radiation protection in paediatrics age

2014

Radiological protection in paediatric population from medical imaging is a subject promoted by various international associations and it is becoming a main field of interest. Paediatric patients have a significant risk from ionizing radiation (IR) following X-ray examination (chest, abdomen and skeletal segments), multidetector CT (MDCT) and PET imaging [1]. Their greater damage’s risk is due to: growing tissues with elevated turnover and high radio sensitivity cellular, the high water content which amplifies the damage, the small body size that involves the exposure of large areas associated with the expectation of long- life makes possible the development of diseases resulting from geneti…

The Spatial Distribution of Perch (Perca fluviatilis) Ectoparasites and the Effect of Chemical Water Quality Parameters on Ectoparasite Spatial Niche…

2018

Abstract Seasonal changes of abiotic factors and their influence on parasite occurrence have repeatedly been studied. Most of the studies have been conducted to evaluate the effect of water physicochemical parameters on changes in the intensity of infection, prevalence and component community of a number of parasite species. However, insufficient attention has been paid to the link between water quality parameters and spatial niche size of ectoparasites. The distribution of ectoparasite species on perch (Perca fluviatilis L.) was studied to establish whether seasonal changes of water quality parameters are associated with ectoparasite spatial niche size. The concentration of phosphates (PO4…

The Spanish Fireball Network: Popularizing Interplanetary Matter

2005

In order to increase in Spain the social interest in the study of interplanetary matter (asteroids, comets and meteoroids) we created the Spanish Photographic Meteor Network (SPMN) in 1997. This network has been dedicated to studying interplanetary matter with participation of researchers from three universities (Universitat Jaume I, Universitat de Barcelona and Universitat de Valencia), the Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya (IEEC) and the Instituto de Astrofisica de Andalucia and it is also supported by the Atmospheric Sounding Station at El Arenosillo (INTA-CEDEA) and by the Experimental Station La Mayora (EELM-CSIC). In order to promote the participation of amateurs, our homepage…
