Study of Two-Photon Exchange via the Beam Transverse Single Spin Asymmetry in Electron-Proton Elastic Scattering at Forward Angles over a Wide Energy…

2020

We report on a new measurement of the beam transverse single spin asymmetry in electron-proton elastic scattering, $A^{ep}_{\perp}$, at five beam energies from 315.1 MeV to 1508.4 MeV and at a scattering angle of $30^{\circ} < \theta < 40^{\circ}$. The covered $Q^2$ values are 0.032, 0.057, 0.082, 0.218, 0.613 (GeV/c)$^2$. The measurement clearly indicates significant inelastic contributions to the two-photon-exchange (TPE) amplitude in the low-$Q^2$ kinematic region. No theoretical calculation is able to reproduce our result. Comparison with a calculation based on unitarity, which only takes into account elastic and $\mathrm{\pi N}$ inelastic intermediate states, suggests that there are ot…

The role of vector-baryon channels and resonances in the γp→K0Σ+ and γn→K0Σ0 reactions near the K⁎Λ threshold

2013

Abstract We have studied the γ p → K 0 Σ + reaction in the energy region around the K ⁎ Λ and K ⁎ Σ thresholds, where the CBELSA/TAPS cross section shows a sudden drop and the differential cross section experiences a transition from a forward-peaked distribution to a flat one. Our coupled-channel model incorporates the dynamics of the vector meson–baryon interaction which is obtained from the hidden gauge formalism. We find that the cross section in this energy region results from a delicate interference between amplitudes having K ⁎ Λ and K ⁎ Σ intermediate states. The sharp downfall is dictated by the presence of a nearby N ⁎ resonance produced by our model, a feature that we have employe…

Searching for signatures around 1920 MeV of a N-* state of three hadron nature

2009

We provide a series of arguments which support the idea that the peak seen in the gamma p -> K+ Lambda reaction around 1920 MeV should correspond to the recently predicted state of J(P) = 1/2(+) as a bound state of K(K) over bar N with a mixture of alpha(0)(980)N and f(0)(980)N components. At the same time we propose polarization experiments in that reaction as a further test of the prediction, as well as a study of the total cross-section for gamma p -> K(+)K(-)p at energies close to threshold and of d sigma/dM(inv) for invariant masses close to the two-kaon threshold.

Searches for lepton number violation and resonances in K± → πμμ decays

2017

The NA48/2 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays to final states with multiple charged particles in 2003–2004. A new upper limit on the rate of the lepton number violating decay K±→π∓μ±μ± is reported: B(K±→π∓μ±μ±)<8.6×10−11 at 90% CL. Searches for two-body resonances X in K±→πμμ decays (such as heavy neutral leptons N4 and inflatons χ ) are also presented. In the absence of signals, upper limits are set on the products of branching fractions B(K±→μ±N4)B(N4→πμ) and B(K±→π±X)B(X→μ+μ−) for ranges of assumed resonance masses and lifetimes. The limits are in the (10−11,10−9) range for resonance lifetimes below 100 ps.
