Mapping properties of weakly singular periodic volume potentials in Roumieu classes
2020
The analysis of the dependence of integral operators on perturbations plays an important role in the study of inverse problems and of perturbed boundary value problems. In this paper, we focus on the mapping properties of the volume potentials with weakly singular periodic kernels. Our main result is to prove that the map which takes a density function and a periodic kernel to a (suitable restriction of the) volume potential is bilinear and continuous with values in a Roumieu class of analytic functions. This result extends to the periodic case of some previous results obtained by the authors for nonperiodic potentials, and it is motivated by the study of perturbation problems for the solut…
Wannier90 as a community code: new features and applications
2019
Wannier90 is an open-source computer program for calculating maximally-localised Wannier functions (MLWFs) from a set of Bloch states. It is interfaced to many widely used electronic-structure codes thanks to its independence from the basis sets representing these Bloch states. In the past few years the development of Wannier90 has transitioned to a community-driven model; this has resulted in a number of new developments that have been recently released in Wannier90 v3.0. In this article we describe these new functionalities, that include the implementation of new features for wannierisation and disentanglement (symmetry-adapted Wannier functions, selectively-localised Wannier functions, s…
Still on the beginning of Euripides' Phoenissae and Sophocles' Electra
2015
Eur. Phoen. 1-2 as well as Soph. El. 1 are probably genuine: the story we read in the scholion (1,245,2-5 Schwartz) has been invented by someone who observed that then-deletion does not affect the sense of the passage.
Infinite Dimensional Banach spaces of functions with nonlinear properties
2010
The aim of this paper is to show that there exist infinite dimensional Banach spaces of functions that, except for 0, satisfy properties that apparently should be destroyed by the linear combination of two of them. Three of these spaces are: a Banach space of differentiable functions on R(n) failing the Denjoy-Clarkson property; a Banach space of non Riemann integrable bounded functions, but with antiderivative at each point of an interval; a Banach space of infinitely differentiable functions that vanish at infinity and are not the Fourier transform of any Lebesgue integrable function.
A geostatistical approach to map near-surface soil moisture through hyperspatial resolution thermal inertia.
2021
Thermal inertia has been applied to map soil water content exploiting remote sensing data in the short and long wave regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Over the last years, optical and thermal cameras were sufficiently miniaturized to be loaded onboard of unmanned aerial systems (UASs), which provide unprecedented potentials to derive hyperspatial resolution thermal inertia for soil water content mapping. In this study, we apply a simplification of thermal inertia, the apparent thermal inertia (ATI), over pixels where underlying thermal inertia hypotheses are fulfilled (unshaded bare soil). Then, a kriging algorithm is used to spatialize the ATI to get a soil water content map. The pr…
Monitoring global vegetation with the Yearly Land Cover Dynamics (YLCD) method
2011
Global vegetation has been traditionally monitored mainly through the use of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). Land surface temperature (LST) provides additional information, and is generally less affected by atmospheric conditions when water vapor is taken into account. The Yearly Land Cover Dynamics (YLCD) method can then be used to retrieve 3 parameters which allow for a good differentiation between biomes at the global and local levels. Using NASA's Long Term Data Record (LTDR), the YLCD method has been applied to IDR (iterative Interpolation for Data Reconstruction) reconstructed LTDR data, in order to account for atmospheric contamination of part of the dataset for a …

2021
The author replies to a critical article by Mario Varvaro regarding some points of his own essay on Chiazzese’s Confronti testuali; he also reports some passages of an unpublished manuscript containing the work plan of Chiazzese’s research.
Analysis of singular bilinear systems using Walsh functions
1991
The use of Walsh functions to analyse singular bilinear systems is investigated. It is shown that the nonlinear implicit differential system equation may be converted to a set of linear algebraic Lyapunov equations to be solved iteratively for the coefficients of the semistate x(t) in terms of the Walsh basis functions. Solution of the iterative algorithm is uniformly convergent to the exact solution of the algebraic generalised Lyapunov equation of the singular bilinear system. The present method is slightly more complicated than a similar one arising from the analysis of linear singular systems. In fact, it is a hybrid between the analyses of usual linear singular and bilinear regular sys…
Malliavin smoothness on the Lévy space with Hölder continuous or BV functionals
2020
We consider Malliavin smoothness of random variables f(X1), where X is a purejump Lévy process and the functionfis either bounded and Hölder continuousor of bounded variation. We show that Malliavin differentiability and fractional differentiability off (X1) depend both on the regularity offand the Blumenthal-Getoor index of the Lévy measure. peerReviewed
