Rola Szanghajskiej Organizacji Współpracy w procesie międzyregionalnej integracji
2018
Szanghajska Organizacja Współpracy (SZOW) to międzynarodowa organizacja o charakterze rządowym, którą od 8 czerwca 2017 r. tworzy osiem państw członkowskich, a mianowicie: Federacja Rosyjska, Chińska Republika Ludowa, Republika Kazachstanu, Republika Kirgistanu, Republika Uzbekistanu, Republika Tadżykistanu, Republika Indii oraz Islamska Republika Pakistanu. Warto podkreślić, że dwa ostatnie państwa, tj. Republika Indii oraz Islamska Republika Pakistanu, formalnie pozostają w stanie wojny. Zgodnie z art. 1 Karty SZOW do głównych celów analizowanej organizacji należy: umacnianie pokoju, bezpieczeństwa i stabilności w regionie euroazjatyckim, przeciwdziałanie międzynarodowemu terroryzmowi, se…
''Dual'' gravity: Using spatial econometrics to control for multilateral resistance.
2007
We propose a quantity-based `dual' version of the gravity equation that yields an estimating equation with both cross-sectional interdependence and spatially lagged error terms. Such an equation can be concisely estimated using spatial econometric techniques. We illustrate this methodology by applying it to the Canada-U.S. data set used previously, among others, by Anderson and van Wincoop (2003) and Feenstra (2002, 2004). Our key result is to show that controlling directly for spatial interdependence across trade flows, as suggested by theory, significantly reduces border effects because it captures `multilateral resistance'. Using a spatial autoregressive moving average specification, we …
Il progetto ECONET-COHAST: Strategie per la conservazione degli habitat costieri di Torre Manfria (Sicilia merid.)
2007
The coexistence of several lithological substrata, together with particular geomorphologic and climatic features, are determining the exceptional floristic and faunistic interest of the coastal trait between Gela and Torre Manfria. In order to preserve and enhance coastal habitats, such area has been chosen as case-study in the Interreg project ECONET-COHAST, which involves six partners from four EU countries (Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Malta). In this paper, the main features of the area are described and the approach followed in order to implement conservation strategies accounting for the local development exigencies is illustrated. © Società Italiana di Scienza della Vegetazione.

WebGIS Implementation for Dynamic Mapping and Visualization of Coastal Geospatial Data: A Case Study of BESS Project
2021
Within an E.U.-funded project, BESS (Pocket Beach Management and Remote Surveillance System), the notion of a geographic information system is an indispensable tool for managing the dynamics of georeferenced data and information for any form of territorial planning. This notion was further explored with the creation of a WebGIS portal that will allow local and regional stakeholders/authorities obtain an easy remote access tool to monitor the status of pocket beaches (PB) in the Maltese Archipelago and Sicily. In this paper, we provide a methodological approach for the implementation of a WebGIS necessary for very detailed dynamic mapping and visualization of geospatial coastal data
