An intrinsic characterization of the Schwarzschild metric

1998

An intrinsic algorithm that exclusively involves conditions on the metric tensor and its differential concomitants is presented to identify every type-D static vacuum solution. In particular, the necessary and sufficient explicit and intrinsic conditions are given for a Lorentzian metric to be the Schwarzschild solution.

Information geometry of Gaussian channels

2009

We define a local Riemannian metric tensor in the manifold of Gaussian channels and the distance that it induces. We adopt an information-geometric approach and define a metric derived from the Bures-Fisher metric for quantum states. The resulting metric inherits several desirable properties from the Bures-Fisher metric and is operationally motivated from distinguishability considerations: It serves as an upper bound to the attainable quantum Fisher information for the channel parameters using Gaussian states, under generic constraints on the physically available resources. Our approach naturally includes the use of entangled Gaussian probe states. We prove that the metric enjoys some desir…

The methods of XLOOPS An introduction to parallel space techniques

1997

Abstract The package XLOOPS presented in this workshop relies on the application of parallel space techniques. We introduce these techniques covering the following topics: • - The generation of integral representations for massive two-loop diagrams. • - The treatment of tensor structures. • - The handling of the γ-algebra in this scheme. • - The separation of UV and IR divergences in analytic expressions. We present two-loop examples taken from Standard Model calculations.

Obtaining the Weyl tensor from the Bel-Robinson tensor

2010

The algebraic study of the Bel-Robinson tensor proposed and initiated in a previous work (Gen. Relativ. Gravit. {\bf 41}, see ref [11]) is achieved. The canonical form of the different algebraic types is obtained in terms of Bel-Robinson eigen-tensors. An algorithmic determination of the Weyl tensor from the Bel-Robinson tensor is presented.

Estimating intrinsic image from successive images by solving underdetermined and overdetermined systems of the dichromatic model

2020

International audience; Estimating an intrinsic image from a sequence of successive images taken from an object at different angles of illumination can be used in various applications such as objects recognition, color classification, and the like; because, in so doing, it can provide more visual information. Meanwhile, according to the well-known dichromatic model, each image can be considered a linear combination of three components, including intrinsic image, shading factor, and specularity. In this study, at first, two simple independent constrained and parallelized quadratic programming steps were used for computing values of the shading factor and the specularity of each successive of…

On the factors governing the pressure dependence of the viscosity of moderately concentrated polymer solutions

1982

Viscosity measurements were carried out as a function of pressure and temperature with solutions of polystyrene in eight (endothermal) θ-solvents at the respective critical composition by means of a Searle-type apparatus. A rolling-ball viscometer was used for the investigation of the pure solvents. In all cases the viscosity coefficient increases in a more or less exponential manner when the pressure is raised. For θ-conditions, the volumes of activation of the solutions exceed that of the pure solvent by typically 10–15%. The exact amount of this extra efffect stemming from the presence of the polymer and its variation with temperature can be qualitatively correlated with the heats of mix…

Rigid Hyperbranched Polycarbonate Polyols from CO2 and Cyclohexene-Based Epoxides

2017

Hyperbranched, multifunctional polycarbonate polyols based on CO2, cyclohexene oxide (CHO), and the “inimer” (initiator–monomer) (4-hydroxymethyl)cyclohexene oxide (HCHO) were prepared in one-pot syntheses. The related linear poly(hydroxymethyl cyclohexene carbonate) structures based on protected HCHO and postpolymerization deprotection were also synthesized as model compounds. The content of hydroxyl functionalities was adjustable for both linear and hyperbranched terpolymer systems. All CO2/epoxide polymerizations were catalyzed by the (R,R)-(salcy)-Co(III)Cl complex. The polycarbonates obtained were comprehensively investigated using various 1D and 2D NMR techniques, SEC, FT-IR, UV–vis s…

Investigation of compatibility of a dicyanate ester monomer and polysulfone by size-exclusion chromatography and viscometry

2003

The influence of solvent on the compatibility behaviour of Arocy B10, a cyanate ester monomer, and polysulfone (PSF) was investigated by means of dilute solution viscometry and of the preferential solvation parameter at 25 °C. The ternary systems under study are: tetrahydrofuran/Arocy B10/polysulfone (PSF), N,N-dimethylformamide/Arocy B10/PSF and dichloromethane/Arocy B10/PSF. Values of the specific viscosity of PSF in a ‘binary solvent’ formed by Arocy B10 + solvent have been used to determine the compatibility of the polymer blend Arocy B10/PSF. An interaction parameter Δb that depends on concentration has been determined. The preferential solvation parameter was measured by size-exclusio…

2016

In this chapter, the tools introduced in Chap. 2 are applied to the study of the photochemistry of aniline. This work has been initiated during a six-month fellowship in the group of Professor Helen Fielding in the Chemistry Department of University College London, in the framework of the FASTQUAST Initial Training Network.
