Khovanov homology for signed divides

2009

The purpose of this paper is to interpret polynomial invariants of strongly invertible links in terms of Khovanov homology theory. To a divide, that is a proper generic immersion of a finite number of copies of the unit interval and circles in a [math] –disc, one can associate a strongly invertible link in the [math] –sphere. This can be generalized to signed divides: divides with [math] or [math] sign assignment to each crossing point. Conversely, to any link [math] that is strongly invertible for an involution [math] , one can associate a signed divide. Two strongly invertible links that are isotopic through an isotopy respecting the involution are called strongly equivalent. Such isotopi…

INVOLUTIONS ON KNOT GROUPS AND VARIETIES OF REPRESENTATIONS IN A LIE GROUP

2002

We prove the existence of a rationalisation [Formula: see text] of a classical or high-dimensional knot group Π which admits an involution if the Alexander polynomials of the knot are reciprocal. Using the group [Formula: see text] and its involution, we study the local structure, in the neighbourhood of an abelian representation, of the space of representation of the knot group Π in a a Lie group. We apply these results to the groups of classical prime knots up to 10 crossings.

Invariant rotational curves in Sitnikov's Problem

1993

The Sitnikov's Problem is a Restricted Three-Body Problem of Celestial Mechanics depending on a parameter, the eccentricity,e. The Hamiltonian,H(z, v, t, e), does not depend ont ife=0 and we have an integrable system; ife is small the KAM Theory proves the existence of invariant rotational curves, IRC. For larger eccentricities, we show that there exist two complementary sequences of intervals of values ofe that accumulate to the maximum admissible value of the eccentricity, 1, and such that, for one of the sequences IRC around a fixed point persist. Moreover, they shrink to the planez=0 ase tends to 1.

On the K-stability of complete intersections in polarized manifolds

2011

We consider the problem of existence of constant scalar curvature Kaehler metrics on complete intersections of sections of vector bundles. In particular we give general formulas relating the Futaki invariant of such a manifold to the weight of sections defining it and to the Futaki invariant of the ambient manifold. As applications we give a new Mukai-Umemura-Tian like example of Fano 5-fold admitting no Kaehler-Einstein metric and a strong evidence of K-stability of complete intersections on Grassmannians.

Nodal Solutions for Supercritical Laplace Equations

2015

In this paper we study radial solutions for the following equation $$\Delta u(x)+f (u(x), |x|) = 0,$$ where $${x \in {\mathbb{R}^{n}}}$$ , n > 2, f is subcritical for r small and u large and supercritical for r large and u small, with respect to the Sobolev critical exponent $${2^{*} = \frac{2n}{n-2}}$$ . The solutions are classified and characterized by their asymptotic behaviour and nodal properties. In an appropriate super-linear setting, we give an asymptotic condition sufficient to guarantee the existence of at least one ground state with fast decay with exactly j zeroes for any j ≥ 0. Under the same assumptions, we also find uncountably many ground states with slow decay, singular gro…

Stochastic discretized learning-based weak estimation: a novel estimation method for non-stationary environments

2016

The task of designing estimators that are able to track time-varying distributions has found promising applications in many real-life problems.Existing approaches resort to sliding windows that track changes by discarding old observations. In this paper, we report a novel estimator referred to as the Stochastic Discretized Weak Estimator (SDWE), that is based on the principles of discretized Learning Automata (LA). In brief, the estimator is able to estimate the parameters of a time varying binomial distribution using finite memory. The estimator tracks changes in the distribution by operating a controlled random walk in a discretized probability space. The steps of the estimator are discre…

Rotation-invariant optical recognition of three-dimensional objects.

2008

An automatic method for rotation-invariant three-dimensional (3-D) object recognition is proposed. The method is based on the use of 3-D information contained in the deformed fringe pattern obtained when a grating is projected onto an object’s surface. The proposed method was optically implemented by means of a two-cycle joint transform correlator. The rotation invariance is achieved by means of encoding with the fringe pattern a single component of the circular-harmonic expansion derived from the target. Thus the method is invariant for rotations around the line of sight. The whole experimental setup can be constructed with simple equipment. Experimental results show the utility of the pro…

The J-invariant, Tits algebras and Triality

2012

In the present paper we set up a connection between the indices of the Tits algebras of a simple linear algebraic group $G$ and the degree one parameters of its motivic $J$-invariant. Our main technical tool are the second Chern class map and Grothendieck's $\gamma$-filtration. As an application we recover some known results on the $J$-invariant of quadratic forms of small dimension; we describe all possible values of the $J$-invariant of an algebra with orthogonal involution up to degree 8 and give explicit examples; we establish several relations between the $J$-invariant of an algebra $A$ with orthogonal involution and the $J$-invariant of the corresponding quadratic form over the functi…

Robust control of a Hammerstein model of DC/DC converters

2007

This paper deals with the robust control of a Hammerstein mathematical model of DC/DC converters, consisting of the nonlinear static characteristics of the converter followed by one of a few number of linear time- invariant models which describe the converter in the useful working range. One of these models is assumed as the nominal model of the system and the remaining models are used for describing the model uncertainty. Nominal behaviour is assured using H-2 optimal control method, Robust stability and behaviour are assured by imposing H-infin specifications. The closed loop control system consisting of the converter Hammerstein model and the robust controller is analyzed by means of sim…

La linguistique cognitive existe-t-elle ?

2009
