Developments for neutron-induced fission at IGISOL-4
2016
At the IGISOL-4 facility, neutron-rich, medium mass nuclei have usually been produced via charged particle-induced fission of natural uranium and thorium. Neutron-induced fission is expected to have a higher production cross section of the most neutron-rich species. Development of a neutron source along with a new ion guide continues to be one of the major goals since the commissioning of IGISOL-4. Neutron intensities at di↵erent angles from a beryllium neutron source have been measured in an on-line experiment with a 30 MeV proton beam. Recently, the new ion guide coupled to the neutron source has been tested as well. Details of the neutron source and ion guide design together with prelimi…
Improved ion guide for heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions
1998
The ion guide for heavy-ion-induced reactions developed originally for the SARA facility in Grenoble has been implemented at the Jyvaskyla IGISOL facility. For the Cd-116(Ar-40, 6n)Dy-150 reaction an efficiency of 0.5% relative to the number of reaction products entering the stopping chamber was obtained. This is 3.5 times higher than previously obtained at SARA and corresponds to a yield of about 100 ions/(p mu C mb). Mass-separated yields for the Ar-36 + Mo-92 and Ar-36 + Mo-94 reactions were measured. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
Joint use of cardio-embolic and bleeding risk scores in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation
2013
Background Scores for cardio-embolic and bleeding risk in patients with atrial fibrillation are described in the literature. However, it is not clear how they co-classify elderly patients with multimorbidity, nor whether and how they affect the physician's decision on thromboprophylaxis. Methods Four scores for cardio-embolic and bleeding risks were retrospectively calculated for ⥠65 year old patients with atrial fibrillation enrolled in the REPOSI registry. The co-classification of patients according to risk categories based on different score combinations was described and the relationship between risk categories tested. The association between the antithrombotic therapy received and t…
New design and simulation of the ion guide for neutron-induced fission products at the IGISOL facility
2023
Measurements of independent fission yield distributions in neutron-induced fission at high neutron energies are important for our fundamental understanding of the fission process, and are also relevant for reactor physics applications. So far, measurements of independent fission yields in proton-induced fission have been performed at the IGISOL facility at the University of Jyväskylä, using the Penning trap as a high resolving-power mass-filter. In order to also facilitate measurements of neutron-induced fission, a dedicated ion guide and a proton-to-neutron converter was developed. However, the first measurement indicates that fewer fission products than expected reach the Penning trap. To…
A DISSECTION’S GUIDE TO HUMAN ABDOMINAL CAVITY
2020
The purpose of this article is to show the abdominal cavity’s dissection method. In the summer of 2018 a group of students from the University of Palermo, who had already taken the anatomy exam and had a good knowledge of English, went for a period of two weeks to do a dissection course at the University of Malta. The students dissected skin, subcutaneously, muscle layers, parietal peritoneum and abdominal organs. This work proves to be a small dissection guide for young medical students who want to learn the main bases of dissection and important information for topographical anatomy.
The rare isotope beams production at the Texas A&M university Cyclotron Institute
2013
The Cyclotron Institute at Texas A&M is currently configuring a scheme for the production of radioactive-ion beams that incorporates a light-ion guide and a heavy-ion guide coupled with an electron-cyclotron-resonance ion source constructed for charge-breeding. This scheme is part of an upgrade to the facility and is intended to produce radioactive beams suitable for injection into the K500 superconducting cyclotron. The current status of the project and details on the ion sources used in the project is presented. peerReviewed
A BRIEF DISSECTION GUIDE TO HUMAN THORAX
2020
The purpose of this technical report is to present that, in summer 2018, a group of students from the University of Palermo did at the University of malta. The students have the experience to dissected a thorax under a guide to expert dissectors. This work would be also a small dissection guide for young students who want to learn the main bases of dissection

An off-line ion guide quadrupole mass spectrometer system
2017
Off-line ioniohjain kvadrupolimassaspektrometri systeemi. The commissioning of a new off-line ion guide quadrupole mass …
Pharmacogenetics in Neuroblastoma: What Can Already Be Clinically Implemented and What Is Coming Next?
2021
Pharmacogenetics is one of the cornerstones of Personalized Precision Medicine that needs to be implemented in the routine of our patients’ clinical management in order to tailor their therapies as much as possible, with the aim of maximizing efficacy and minimizing toxicity. This is of great importance, especially in pediatric cancer and even more in complex malignancies such as neuroblastoma, where the rates of therapeutic success are still below those of many other types of tumors. The studies are mainly focused on germline genetic variants and in the present review, state of the art is presented: which are the variants that have a level of evidence high enough to be implemented in the c…
