Absolute of Relative? A New Approach to Building Feature Vectors For Emotion Tracking In Music

2013

It is believed that violation of or conformity to expectancy when listening to music is one of the main sources of musical emotion. To address this, we test a new way of building feature vectors and representing features within the vector for the machine learning approach to continuous emotion tracking systems. Instead of looking at the absolute values for specific features, we concentrate on the average value of that feature across the whole song and the difference between that and the absolute value for a particular sample. To test this “relative” representation, we used a corpus of popular music with continuous labels on the arousalvalence space. The model consists of a Support Vector Re…

TRANS-FUSIMO: preliminary in-vivo animal results of MR-guided focused ultrasound of liver under respiratory motion

2019

Purpose: Treating liver tumors using Focused Ultrasound (FUS) is a great challenge. Prior to human applications, an in-vivo animal trial using the TRANS-FUSIMO treatment system (TTS) is ongoing in order to evaluate the safety and the technical efficacy and efficiency of generating predefined necrotic lesions. Methods and Materials: The trial includes a crossbred porcine model of thirty large white swine (all females; 55-85Kg) that will be treated using the TTS under general anaesthesia with intubation. All treatments haven been performed under ventilator-controlled breathing and using an improved non-clinical prototype FUS transducer integrated with a 1,5T MRI unit; a set of interventional …

Tectonothermal Evolution of the Broadly Rifted Zone, Ethiopian Rift

2019

The Broadly Rifted Zone (BRZ) of southern Ethiopia is a long-lived and structurally complex segment of the East African Rift System. However, due to poor surface exposure of early synrift strata and a dearth of subsurface data, the evolution of the BRZ remains poorly understood. We present new apatite (U-Th-Sm)/He and augmented apatite fission track low-temperature thermochronology data from the Beto and Galana basin boundary fault systems to constrain the tectonothermal evolution of the western and eastern BRZ, respectively. Time-temperature reconstructions suggest that East African Rift System-related extension began concurrently across the BRZ in the early Miocene (20–17 Ma), at least 6 …

WATCHING PEOPLE: ALGORITHMS TO STUDY HUMAN MOTION AND ACTIVITIES

2020

Nowadays human motion analysis is one of the most active research topics in Computer Vision and it is receiving an increasing attention from both the industrial and scientific communities. The growing interest in human motion analysis is motivated by the increasing number of promising applications, ranging from surveillance, human–computer interaction, virtual reality to healthcare, sports, computer games and video conferencing, just to name a few. The aim of this thesis is to give an overview of the various tasks involved in visual motion analysis of the human body and to present the issues and possible solutions related to it. In this thesis, visual motion analysis is categorized into thr…

The access and success in the different higher education tracks in France for female and male youths of North African backgrounds

2016

International audience; Despite their preference for selective vocational programmes, many youths of North African backgrounds, including female youths, are diverted toward academic university programmes. To what extent do successful or unsuccessful applications to a chosen programme determine higher education outcomes and transition to work, particularly for female North African youths? Our results show that unemployment is higher for drop-outs for both North African men and women compared to their French counterparts.
