Synthesis of aryl azides: A probe reaction to study the synergetic action of ultrasounds and ionic liquids

2011

Abstract The combined effect of ultrasounds and ionic liquids was used to perform the synthesis of aryl azides by nucleophilic aromatic substitution in ionic liquid/[1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium][N 3 ] binary mixtures. The ultrasounds efficiency was analyzed as a function of the substrate and of the ionic liquid structure. In the first case, both 6π and 10π electrons aryl halides were considered. As far as the ionic liquid structure is concerned, both aromatic and aliphatic ionic liquids were taken into account. Among aromatic cations, the effects due to different ability in giving hydrogen bond or π–π interactions were considered. The use of a geminal ionic liquid having an aromatic spacer …

The use of imidazolium group-containing Bronsted acids for masspectrometric determination of biogenic amines in alcoholic beverages

2017

Comparative analysis of the electronic structures of mono- and bi-atomic chains of IV, III–V and II–VI group elements calculated using the DFT LCAO a…

2015

Using the first principle non-relativistic linear combination of atomic orbitals (LCAO) and relativistic linearized augmented cylindrical wave (LACW) methods, the band structure of the covalent and partially ionic ANB8−N single atom width chain is calculated. Both the LCAO and LACW methods show that the chains of C, Si, Ge, Sn, and Pb are metallic. However, there is a great difference between the relativistic and non-relativistic band structures. The π bands crossing the Fermi level are orbitally doubly degenerate in the non-relativistic model. The relativistic LACW calculations demonstrate that the spin and orbital motion of electrons are coupled, thereby splitting the π bands. The spin–or…

DNA condensation with spermine dendrimers: interactions in solution, charge inversion, and morphology control

2011

In this report, we characterize the formation of structured condensates of 884 base pair, double stranded DNA and spin-labeled, second generation dendrons (SL-G2) that are spermine-based and cationic using continuous wave electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (CW EPR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The electrostatic interaction between DNA and SL-G2 in solution leads to condensation of DNA into densely packed structures. At a particular charge ratio of 2.3 (cationic charges/anionic charges), the structures appear as thick rod-like condensates of parallelly ordered, stretched DNA and SL-G2. Depending on the concentration of DNA, the charge ratio and the ionic strength, wh…

Electrostatic Anchoring of Mn4 Single-Molecule Magnets onto Chemically Modified Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes

2012

Two different routes that enable the electrostatic grafting of cationic single-molecule magnets (SMMs) onto the surface of chemically modified anionic multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) are described. The chemical nature and physical properties of the resulting hybrids are discussed on the basis of a complete battery of experimental techniques. The data show that the chemical nature of the SMM unit remains intact, while its magnetic response is significantly affected by the grafting process, which is likely due to surface effects.

<title>Functional models of electrochromic devices: cycling capacity and degradation</title>

1997

Electrical transfer and diffusion of ions and the irreversibility of ion and electron processes in heterojunctions are responsible for degradation of ionic devices. These processes for electrochromic devices (ECD) determine the cycling capacity and lifetime. The basic problem here is how to match the electrochemical parameters (including chemical potential) of heterojunction. The experiments had been carried out on ECD based on system: (phi) - -(phi) , where AAH is solid electrolyte based on antimony acid hydrates. The cycling capacity and degradation processes of ECD are investigated by electro-optical and electro-chemical spectroscopy. The analysis of experimental data are based on assump…

On the modelling of an Acid/Base Flow Battery: An innovative electrical energy storage device based on pH and salinity gradients

2020

Abstract Electrical energy storage can enhance the efficiency in the use of fluctuating renewable sources, e.g. solar and wind energy. The Acid/Base Flow Battery is an innovative and sustainable process to store electrical energy in the form of pH and salinity gradients via electrodialytic reversible techniques. Two electromembrane processes are involved: Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis during the charge phase and its opposite, Bipolar Membrane Reverse Electrodialysis, during the discharge phase. For the first time, the present work aims at predicting the performance of this energy storage device via the development of a dynamic mathematical model based on a multi-scale approach with distr…

Tunable antenna system for plug&play satellite avionics: Prototyping and test

2014

In the framework of an ESA program, a new architecture for plug&play compact antenna systems in the X band has been investigated and experimentally verified by many prototypes. The proposed antenna system takes inspiration from the LEGO building toys: the basic component of the new architecture is a 2.7cm-cube complex module that integrates a three-dimensional local network and a programmable mechanism based on the bonding-wire technology to select one among three polarization options. Elemental blocks can be augmented by accessories to shape the beam and may be used in array configuration over boards provided with cluster-level beamforming networks. Measurements have been performed for bot…
