Crystal structures, spectral and magnetic properties of cobalt(II) pyridinecarboxylates: A novel polymeric chain in {[{2,6-(MeO)2nic}2(H2O)2Co(μ-H2O)…

2006

Abstract Synthesis and characterization of two new cobalt(II) complexes, namely monomeric [Co(2-MeSnic)2(H2O)4] · 4H2O (2-MeSnic is 2-methylthionicotinate) and polymeric {[{2,6-(MeO)2nic}2(H2O)2Co(μ-H2O)Co(H2O)4(μ-H2O)]{2,6-(MeO)2nic}2 · 6H2O}n (2,6-(MeO)2nic is 2,6-dimethoxynicotinate), are reported. The characterizations were based on elemental analysis, infrared and electronic spectra as well as magnetic measurements. Crystal structures of both complexes have been determined. In both of them – ([Co(2-MeSnic)2(H2O)4] · 4H2O and {[{2,6-(MeO)2nic}2(H2O)2Co(μ-H2O)Co(H2O)4(μ-H2O)]{2,6-(MeO)2nic}2 · 6H2O}n) – the CoII atom is six-coordinated. In the 2nd complex, there are two nonequivalent CoI…

New Features in the dynamics of a ferroin-catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction induced by a zwitterionic surfactant

2008

Abstract Interactions between reaction–diffusion systems and aggregated host environments are a subject of widespread interest. In this work, the behavior of the Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction was investigated in a micellar environment formed by the zwitterionic surfactant N-tetradecyl-N,N-dimethylamine oxide (C14DMAO). The appearance of an induction period with a threshold-like dependence upon the surfactant concentration, was detected at [C14DMAO] = 5.0 × 10−3 mol dm−3. These new features were explained in terms of the segregation ability typical of the amphiphilic self-assembling systems. Numerical simulations were also performed to confirm the proposed mechanism.

Ionic conductivity in monophasic Ag2xNa2(1 − x)ZnSiO4 materials with 0 ≤ x ≤ 1

1996

Abstract Solid solution samples Ag 2 x Na 2(1 − x ) ZnSiO 4 with 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 have been prepared by heat treating powder mixtures of Na 2 ZnSiO 4 and Ag 2 ZnSiO 4 at 300 °C and characterised by X-ray powder diffraction. The ionic conductivity of the solid solution has been determined as a function of composition and temperature by means of impedance measurements. The ionic conductivity of the mixed-mobile ion compositions (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) shows no substantial deviation from the mutually similar conductivities of the end compositions Na 2 ZnSiO 4 and Ag 2 ZnSiO 4 , and neither activation energy nor conductivity pre-factor varies significantly with composition. The results indicate that the mixed-alk…

Synthesis, structure and conductivity of Ag2ZnSiO4, Ag2ZnGeO4 and Ag2BeSiO4

1995

Abstract The compounds Ag2MM′O4 with MM′ = ZnSi, ZnGe and BeSi have been synthesised by reacting the corresponding Na compounds with molten AgNO3. The crystal structures of Ag2ZnSiO4 and Ag2ZnGeO4 have been refined from Cu K α1 powder diffractometer data by the Rietveld technique to RF = 3.3 and 7.1%, respectively. They are isostructural with monoclinic Na2ZnSiO4. The powder pattern of Ag2BeSiO4 indicates that it is isostructural with orthorhombic Na2BeSiO4. The conductivity of the compounds has been determined using ac impedance measurements. Ag2ZnSiO4 and Ag2BeSiO4 are ionic conductors, with conductivities that are very similar to those of their corresponding isostructural Na compounds. A…

Kinetics and equilibrium in insulin radioimmunoassay.

2002

The kinetics of insulin reaction has been studied with its specific antibody immobilized on the inner wall of the reaction tube; the radioimmunoanalytical determination of such a substance is based on the reaction. Independent variables were labelled and unlabelled insulin concentrations, temperature, viscosity, and the medium's ionic strength. Biexponential kinetics was found to be dependent on the concentrations fitted to the models discussed in the paper. The effect of temperature shows activation parameters similar to the viscous flow energy of water, which suggests that the reaction is diffusion-controlled. The results of the viscosity analysis points at the clearly negative influence …

MCSCF determination of the KO molecule ground state.

1992

Abstract Ab initio calculations at the MC/CASSCF level are used to determine in an accurate way the nature and position of the ground state of the KO molecule. The characteristic 2 Π and 2 Σ + alkali monoxide ionic states show a theoretical energy separation of about 0.04 eV, which produces opposite results by authors in favour of one or the other symmetry. We test the basis set dependence and active space dependence of the calculated energetical ordering of both states, with an extensive study of the active orbitais selection; the results show a ground state of 2 Σ + symmetry.

Nonlinear hairy layer theory of electrophoretic fingerprinting applied to consecutive layer by layer polyelectrolyte adsorption onto charged polystyr…

1997

The consecutive layer-by-layer adsorption of poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and poly(styrenesulfonate) (PSS) on colloidal charged latex particles is investigated by measuring the electrophoretic mobility as a function of pH and ionic strength over a broad range (electrophoretic fingerprinting). Meaningful interpretation of the data required the development of a nonlinear approach to hairy particle electrophoresis including dissociation, adsorption, and association. Steric and electrostatic exclusion of mobile ions from the hairy layer has been considered. Also, the surface conductivity correction is extended to the case of charged hairy layer particles. We deposited up to three polyel…

Synthesis and X-ray structure of cationic β-diimine palladium complexes containing π-methallyl ligand

2005

High yield of cationic palladium β-diimine complexes [(CH 2 (MeCNAr) 2 )Pd(η 3 -C 4 H 7 )][Y] (Ar = C 6 H 5 , Y = PF 6 (8); 2-Me-C 6 H 4 , Y = PF 6 (9); 2,6-Me 2 -C 6 H 3 , Y = PF 6 (10); 2,6-iPr 2 -C 6 H 3 , Y = PF 6 (11), Y = B(3,5-(CF 3 ) 2 -C 6 H 3 ) 4 (12)) have been obtained by an oxidative addition of the methallyloxyphosphonium salts (5, 6) to a preformed complex Pd(dba) 2 (7) in the presence of the β-iminoamine ligands (1-4). These complexes are thermally stable and have been characterized by 'H and 1 3 C{ 1 H} NMR as well as IR spectroscopy. The structure of the cationic allyl palladium complex (12) has been solved by X-ray crystallography.

Do the Intramolecular π Interactions Improve the Stability of Ionic, Pyridine-Carbene-Based Iridium(III) Complexes?

2013

Throughout the last years one of the most intensive research topics in light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) focused on the design of blue-emitting, ionic iridium(III) complexes. To this end, the most recent strategy is the use of carbene-based ancillary ligands. Although blue LECs have been successfully fabricated, the stability has been noted as the main drawback. To overcome this problem, Zhang et al. have recently explored the use of π interactions to enhance the strength of pyridine-carbene-based complexes. The authors suggested that the use of intramolecular π–π stacking interactions by means of pendant phenyl rings to improve the stability of LECs is not as effective as in devi…
