Background: The aims of the present study were to examine prospective associations of multimorbidity (i.e., >= 2 chronic conditions) at baseline with incident and persistent anxiety over a two-year follow-up period among Irish older adults, and to quantify the extent to which sleep, pain, and disability mediate the multimorbidity-anxiety relationship.& nbsp;Methods: Data from The Irish Longitudinal Study on Aging (TILDA) conducted between 2009 and 2011 with a follow-up after two years were analyzed. Even though O. Wilde's Irishness is difficult to trace, there is a profound sense of Irishness underlying his life and much of what he wrote and thought, especially in his correspondence. In my paper, I evaluate the role of Irishness within his life and work in order to assess how it shapes and influences his own thinking and writing. Perhaps considered as one facet of his all-interesting multifarious doubleness, still, it occupies a specific role within reception studies and explains why there has always been a strong interest towards his life and work among his fellow countrymen.

The conceptualisation of austerity in the Portuguese, Spanish and Irish press

The aim of this chapter is to analyse the conceptualisation of austerity in three different European cultures by identifying metaphorical expressions used in one representative newspaper of the Portuguese, the Spanish and the Irish press between 2011 and 2012. The metaphors were identified by searching for three keywords from the field of economy and politics (austeridade-austeridad-austerity, corte-recorte-cut and divida-deuda-debt) and were then classified according to the type of schema they instantiate, namely, propositional schema, image schema or event schema. Lessons learned from a community engagement initiative within Irish higher education

This paper focuses on a community–university partnership built around a programme of study co-created by residents of a disadvantaged community and situated, for the most part, within that community. The aim of this paper is to share lessons learned from this community engagement initiative, as identified through a research study which ran concurrent to the programme. The study involved 41 interviews (18 individual interviews and 23 focus groups) over a two-year period with 28 participants. Daniel O'Connell (Cahersiveen 1775 - Genoa 1847), an Irish politician and patriot, fought for Catholic Emancipation, to repeal the penal laws discriminating Irish Catholics and the Act of Union. Believing firmly in non-violence, he defended the representation of Irish Catholics in Parliament as the most appropriate instrument to support their rights. This book examines the language of stereotyping produced by Irish journalists of The Irish Times and by Irish writers in their description, creation and interpretation of Italians living in Ireland and in Italy. The so-called Celtic Tiger phenomenon of economic boom has modified the images of Italians in Ireland, contributing to a shift from stereotypes to the so-called imagotypes.
