The role of intrinsic pathway in apoptosis activation and progression in Peyronie's Disease.
2014
Peyronie’s disease (PD) is characterized with formation of fibrous plaques which result in penile deformity, pain, and erectile dysfunction. The aim of this study was to investigate the activation of the intrinsic apoptotic pathway in plaques from PD patients. Tunica albuginea from either PD or control patients was assessed for the expression of bax, bcl-2 and caspases 9 and 3 using immunohistochemistry and by measurement of apoptotic cells using TUNEL assay. Bax overexpression was observed in metaplastic bone tissue, in fibroblasts, and in myofibroblast of plaques from PD patients. Little or no bcl-2 immunostaining was detected in samples from either patients or controls. Caspase 3 immunos…
Trame e genealogie dell’ironia ariostesca
2014
Parody in art from the sixties to our times
2014
The word parody has been coined during classical antiquity and has since been considered mostly as a literary genre or figure. Nevertheless, numerous plastic artists are making use of its forms, processes and connotations. During the 1960s decade, the advent of consumerism and its effects on the work of art duplicability gave a new rise to parody. Reproducibility allowed the transformation of history of arts into a vast repertoire in which one may draw to create from and thus, offered a fertile ground for parodic creation. This study focuses on understanding why and how such a wide range of artists are taking advantage of parody for personal or contextual ends from the 1960s to nowadays. Th…
Irony in Thomas De Quincey's works
2014
Studying the works of De Quincey necessarily leads to three concepts almost impossible to define: autobiography, Romanticism, and all-too neglected irony. Whether rhetorical, tragic or “romantic”, irony expresses perfectly the many contradictions of the opium-eater. As the rhetorical tool of conflict and self-derision, claiming both individualistic and community values, sociable and provoking, irony is the way to redemption as much as the expression of deep unease, a way of pushing himself forward, or of withdrawing into the background. Caught between Romanticism and Victorianism, De Quincey questions the limits of his own identity and his status as an intellectual, and exploits reluctantly…
