Self-assembly of colloidal micelles in microfluidic channels.

The self-assembly of amphiphilic Janus colloids in microfluidic channels is studied using hybrid molecular dynamics simulations with fully resolved hydrodynamic interactions incorporated through the multi-particle collision dynamics algorithm. The simulations are conducted at a density and temperature where the Janus particles spontaneously self-assemble into spherical micelles to minimize the interface between the solvophobic caps and the surrounding solvent. In confined systems, this contact area can also be reduced by aggregation at the channel walls. Eurooppa ja islam ovat olleet toistensa kanssa tekemisissä jo vuosisatojen ajan. Kanssakäyminen on ollut sekä vihamielistä, että rauhanomaista, mutta eurooppalaisten asenteita on aina värittänyt pelko kristinuskon vanhentuneena kieltänyttä itäistä naapuria kohtaan. Tässä työssä tarkastellaan Euroopassa 1700-luvun loppupuolella vallinnutta muslimikuvaa. Gephyromycin, the first bridged angucyclinone, from Streptomyces griseus strain NTK 14

The new, highly oxygenated angucyclinone gephyromycin was isolated from an extract of a Streptomyces griseus strain. Its unprecedented ether-bridged structure was elucidated by NMR methods and substantiated by single crystal X-ray analysis. The absolute configuration was evidenced by quantum chemical CD calculations. Gephyromycin exhibits glutaminergic activity towards neuronal cells. Furthermore, the known compounds fridamycin E and dehydrorabelomycin were identified.

Tutkimukseni lähtökohtana on Albert Camus’n teos Sivullinen (L’Etranger). Tarkoituksena on tarkastella, kuinka Camus esittää sivullisuuden ja mitä viittauksia myöhemmässä tutkimuskirjallisuudessa on Sivulliseen. Aikomuksenani on tarkastella toiseutta tutkimus- ja osin kaunokirjallisuuden valossa ja selvittää siihen liittyviä syntyprosesseja ja politiikkoja, jotka johtavat tuohon ulkopuolisuuden tilaan. Tutkin myös sitä, millainen on sivullisen asema politiikan kentällä ja millaista politiikkaa sivullisen positiosta on mahdollista harjoittaa. Causes of cetacean stranding and death on the Catalonian coast (western Mediterranean Sea), 2012-2019

The causes of cetacean stranding and death along the Catalan coast between 2012 and 2019 were systematically investigated. Necropsies and detailed pathological investigations were performed on 89 well-preserved stranded cetaceans, including 72 striped dolphins Stenella coeruleoalba, 9 Risso’s dolphins Grampus griseus, 5 bottlenose dolphins Tursiops truncatus, 1 common dolphin Delphinus delphis, 1 Cuvier’s beaked whale Ziphius cavirostris and 1 fin whale Balaenoptera physalus. The cause of death was determined for 89.9% of the stranded cetaceans. Fisheries interaction was the most frequent cause of death in striped dolphins (27.8%) and bottlenose dolphins (60%). The liver and pancreas of 103 striped dolphins,Stenella coeruleoalba, 18 Risso's dolphins,Grampus griseus, 14 bottlenose dolphins,Tursiops truncatus, 8 common dolphins,Delphinus delphis, and 5 long-finned pilot whales,Globicephala melas, were analysed for brachycladiid species. Finland and Sweden share the ideal of a Nordic welfare state, with gender equality as a central tenet. In both countries, right-wing populist parties have gained prominence in mainstream politics. Despite similar political agendas at the moment, these parties have different political histories, and different modes of expressing their anti-immigration pleas. In this comparative study, we examine how the distinction between ‘us’ and the ‘other’ is performed intersectionally in terms of gender, social class, ethnicity and ‘race’, and sexuality. High Reynolds number Navier-Stokes solutions and boundary layer separation induced by a rectilinear vortex

Abstract We compute the solutions of Prandtl’s and Navier–Stokes equations for the two dimensional flow induced by a rectilinear vortex interacting with a boundary in the half plane. For this initial datum Prandtl’s equation develops, in a finite time, a separation singularity. We investigate the different stages of unsteady separation for Navier–Stokes solution at different Reynolds numbers Re = 103–105, and we show the presence of a large-scale interaction between the viscous boundary layer and the inviscid outer flow.
