The Influence of Religion on Life Satisfaction in Italy

Italy is the cradle of Catholicism and, despite the secularization process, religion continues to be part of its national culture. Although Italian sociologists have investigated the religious paradigm in Italy, there are aspects of such phenomenon still little explored. This paper examines the potential influence religion has on individuals’ life satisfaction. Data from the European Value Study survey provides evidence of a two-way interaction between religion and life satisfaction, with a substantial effect only in the case of public religious forms. Gear classification and fault detection using a diffusion map framework

This article proposes a system health monitoring approach that detects abnormal behavior of machines. Diffusion map is used to reduce the dimensionality of training data, which facilitates the classification of newly arriving measurements. The new measurements are handled with Nyström extension. The method is trained and tested with real gear monitoring data from several windmill parks. A machine health index is proposed, showing that data recordings can be classified as working or failing using dimensionality reduction and warning levels in the low dimensional space. Cognitive self-healing system for future mobile networks

This paper introduces a framework and implementation of a cognitive self-healing system for fault detection and compensation in future mobile networks. Performance monitoring for failure identification is based on anomaly analysis, which is a combination of the nearest neighbor anomaly scoring and statistical profiling. Case-based reasoning algorithm is used for cognitive self-healing of the detected faulty cells. Double copies of blaKPC-3::Tn4401a on an IncX3 plasmid in Klebsiella pneumoniae successful clone ST512 from Italy

ABSTRACT A carbapenem-resistant sequence type 512 (ST512) Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase 3 (KPC-3)-producing K. pneumoniae strain showing a novel variant plasmid content was isolated in Palermo, Italy, in 2014. ST512 is a worldwide successful clone associated with the spread of bla KPC genes located on the IncFIIk pKpQIL plasmid. In our ST512 strain, the bla KPC-3 gene was unusually located on an IncX3 plasmid, whose complete sequence was determined. Two copies of bla KPC-3 ::Tn 4401a caused by intramolecular transposition events were detected in the plasmid.

Three Phages from a Boreal Lake during Ice Cover Infecting Xylophilus, Caulobacter, and Polaromonas Species

Although the important role of microbes in freshwater is well understood, studies on phage–host systems in such environments during ice cover are completely lacking. Here, we describe the isolation and characterization of three new bacteriophages infecting Xylophilus sp., Caudobacter sp., and Polaromonas sp. from freshwater samples taken under the ice cover of Lake Konnevesi, Finland. Lumi, Kuura, and Tiera bacteriophages have tailed icosahedral virions and double-stranded DNA. Lumi is a siphophage with a genome of 80,496 bp, and Kuura and Tiera are podophages, and their genomes are 43,205 and 45,327 bp in length, resembling viruses in the class Caudoviricetes.
