The skeletal isomerization of but-1-ene catalyzed by theta-1 zeolite

2001

The complete mechanism for the skeletal isomerization of but-1-ene catalyzed by theta-1 zeolite was investigated theoretically by means of DFT calculations, and the influence of the local geometry of the active site and of electrostatic effects on the geometries of the species involved and on activation and reaction energies were analyzed. It was found that whereas the geometry and stability of alkoxide intermediates are strongly influenced by the local geometry of the active site, the ionic transition states are mainly stabilized by electrostatic effects. Both aspects result in a lowering of the activation energies of the elementary steps that form the mechanism and therefore in enhanced r…

Silica-Immobilized NHC-Gold(I) Complexes: Versatile Catalysts for the Functionalization of Alkynes under Batch and Continuous Flow Conditions

2017

Immobilized sterically demanding NHC-Au(I) complexes silica-[(IPrR)Au]Cl and silica-[(IAdPrR)Au]Cl are synthesized and characterized. These complexes are suitable catalysts in typical homogeneous Au(I)-catalyzed alkyne reactions such as hydration, hydroamination, hydroarylation, or cycloisomerization. The results obtained with the immobilized catalysts in reactions in batch are comparable to those obtained with their homogeneous counterparts with the advantage of easily recovered and recycled in successive reactions. Their catalytic activity decreases when reused in batch reactions, probably because of crushing that is associated with magnetic stirring. In contrast, these immobilized cataly…

Thermal Rearrangements of Perchlorohexatrienes-Structures and Experimental and Theoretical Evaluation of Pathways to Isomerization and Cyclization

2009

We have prepared trans- (1) and cis-octachloro-1,3,5-hexatriene (2) by known routes and studied their thermal behavior experimentally and theoretically by ab initio calculations. The three double bonds in 1 and 2 are completely decoupled due to steric hindrance by the eight Cls, as indicated by calculations as well as the single-crystal X-ray structure of 1. The cis isomer 2 can be isomerized to the trans isomer 1 by heating it to 220–250 °C either neat or dissolved in high-boiling solvents, leading to a roughly 2:1 mixture of trans and cis isomers. Calculations at several different levels of theory predict 1 and 2 to be isoenergetic within 2 kJ mol–1. Unimolecular cis/trans isomerization i…

Isomotiol, a new triterpene from strychnos potatorum

1978

Isomotiol (fern-8-en-3β-ol) was isolated from the leaves of Strychnos potatorum; it was not known previously as a natural product, but it has been obtained by acidic isomerization of compounds with a fern-7-ene or a fern-9(11)-ene skeleton. From the leaves and the bark mixtures of sitosterol, stigmasterol and campesterol were also isolated.

ChemInform Abstract: Benzoxetes and Benzothietes - Heterocyclic Analogues of Benzocyclobutene

2012

Benzo-condensed four-ring heterocycles, such as benzoxetes 1 and benzothietes 3 represent multi-purpose starting compounds for the preparation of various higher heterocyclic ring systems. The thermal or photochemical valence isomerizations between the benzenoid forms 1,3 and the higher reactive o-quinoid structures 2,4 provide the basis for the synthetic applications. On the other hand, this valence isomerization impedes in particular the generation and storage of 1 because the thermal equilibrium 1 2 is completely on the side of 2. Thus, the number of erroneous or questionable benzoxete structures published to date is surprisingly high. On the contrary, the thermal equilibrium 3 4 is on th…

Photoinduced molecular rearrangements. Some comments on the ring-photoisomerization of 1,2,4-oxadiazoles into 1,3,4-oxadiazoles

2001

The ring-photoisomerization of 3-amino- and 3-methylamino-5-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles into the corresponding 2-amino- and 2-methylamino-5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazoles has been reinvestigated by examining the effect of a base on the photoreaction. On irradiating at λ = 254 nm in methanol, yields of the ring-photoisomers were found to be significantly enhanced by the addition of triethylamine (TEA) in the photoreaction medium. By contrast, irradiation of the 3-amino-5-phenyloxadiazole in acetonitrile containing TEA gave an almost complete photoreduction into benzoylguanidine, while few percent of the ring photoisomer were detected. Furthermore, the pyrene-sensitized photolysis of 3-amino-5-phenylo…

Synthese von Benzo[b]thioxanthenen

1995

Synthesis of Benzo[b]thioxanthenes Benzo[b]thioxanthenes, heterocyclic compounds related to tetracenes and tetracyclines can be obtained by the reaction of 2H-benzo[b]thiete (1) and 1,4-naphthoquinones (3a–g). The primary cycloadducts 4a–g undergo an autoxidation process leading to the quinones 6a–g. The dihydroxy compound 4e shows an additional isomerization by a tetrafold H transfer (4e 5e′). Another preparative route to benzo[b]thioxanthenes makes use of the cycloadditon reaction of 1 and 1,4-epoxynaphthalenes (7a–d). The primary adducts can be transformed to the title compounds by catalytic dehydration processes (8a–d 9a-d). An alternate regioselective opening of the oxygen bridge can b…

Rearrangement of Germacranolides. Synthesis and Absolute Configuration of Elemane and Heliangolane Derivatives from Cnicin

2003

A study of the Cope rearrangement of 15-oxo-germacranolides to 15-oxo-elemanolides has been carried out. The synthesis of two natural elemanolides, isolated from Centaurea paui, and an efficent isomerization of the C-4/C-5 double bond of 15-oxo-germacranolides to form heliangolides are reported. The absolute configuration of all the compounds has been ascertained. (© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2003)

ChemInform Abstract: Modified Photobehavior of Carboxylic Acid Derivatives Induced by Protonation.

1987

Abstract A series of carboxylic acid derivatives 1–6 containing a second interacting function have been converted into the corresponding O -protonated species or acylium ions upon treatment with 96% sulfuric acid or oleum, respectively, at room temperature. The resulting stable cations have been spectroscopically characterized and submitted to irradiation. Cis-trans photoisomerization was observed in the ionic speciesderived from trans -crotonic, fumaric and maleic acids, and maleic anhydride. By contrast protonated crotonolactone 5a+ was found to be photostable. Finally, protonated α-bromobutyrolactone 6a+ was clean and efficiently dehydrohalogenated to 5a+ upon irradiation. Since the norm…
