Mononuclear rearrangement of heterocycles in ionic liquids catalyzed by copper(II) salts

2008

Abstract The reactivity of E- and Z-phenylhydrazones of 3-benzoyl-5-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole in the presence of CuCl2 and Cu(ClO4)2·6H2O has been studied in four imidazolium ionic liquids [bmim][X] (X=BF4−, PF6−, SbF6− and CF3SO3−). The reaction may follow different mechanistic patterns, depending on the nature of the ionic liquid anion, accounting for both qualitative and kinetic data. In the presence of CuCl2, two processes take place at the same time, i.e., the E⇆Z isomerization and the rearrangement of Z-isomer into the relevant 4-benzoylamino-2,5-diphenyl-1,2,3-triazole. In contrast, in the presence of Cu(ClO4)2·6H2O, the rearrangement occurs only in solution of [bmim][BF4] and [bmim][C…

The Photocycle of Bacteriophytochrome Is Initiated by Counterclockwise Chromophore Isomerization.

2022

Photoactivation of bacteriophytochrome involves a cis–trans photoisomerization of a biliverdin chromophore, but neither the precise sequence of events nor the direction of the isomerization is known. Here, we used nonadiabatic molecular dynamics simulations on the photosensory protein dimer to resolve the isomerization mechanism in atomic detail. In our simulations the photoisomerization of the D ring occurs in the counterclockwise direction. On a subpicosecond time scale, the photoexcited chromophore adopts a short-lived intermediate with a highly twisted configuration stabilized by an extended hydrogen-bonding network. Within tens of picoseconds, these hydrogen bonds break, allowing the c…

Experimental Confirmation of a Topological Isomer of the Ubiquitous Au25(SR)18 Cluster in the Gas Phase

2021

High-resolution electrospray ionization ion mobility mass spectrometry has revealed a gas-phase isomer of the ubiquitous, extremely well-studied Au25(SR)18 cluster both in anionic and cationic form. The relative abundance of the isomeric structures can be controlled by in-source activation. The measured collision cross section of the new isomer agrees extremely well with a recent theoretical prediction (Matus, M. F.; et al. Chem. Commun. 2020, 56, 8087) corresponding to a Au25(SR)18– isomer that is energetically close and topologically connected to the known ground-state structure via a simple rotation of the gold core without breaking any Au–S bonds. The results imply that the structural d…

Raman spectroscopy of glycolic acid complexes with N2

2019

High overtone excitation induced conformational isomerization of glycolic acid – nitrogen complex in an argon matrix was investigated by Raman spectroscopy. The interaction between glycolic acid and nitrogen change the green light (532 nm) induced isomerization processes compared to non-complexed glycolic acid. The 180° rotation around of the Csingle bondC bond and stabilization of carboxyl Odouble bondCsingle bondOsingle bondH dihedral angle to trans position were the main conformational changes observed in the complex of the lowest energy conformer and nitrogen. Interestingly, only one stable light-induced conformational product was observed, which isomerises back to the lowest energy con…

Large Azobenzene Macrocycles : Formation and Detection by NMR and MS Methods

2023

Azobenzene macrocycles are widely investigated as potential drug delivery systems and as part of molecular machines due to their photo-responsive properties. Herein, we detect the formation of a series of new azobenzene macrocycles that feature up to eight switchable repeating units. High-resolution mass spectrometry and ion mobility (IM) mass spectrometry experiments and 1H and diffusion-ordered spectroscopy (DOSY) NMR are used to detect the presence of the macrocycles that contain 10 to 40 aromatic rings in the gas phase and solution, respectively. The responsiveness of the Z-to-E photo-switching of the smallest of the macrocycles, exhibiting two azobenzene units and in total 10 aromatic …

Kinetics of photochemical isomerization of TFA-Gly-ZΔPhe into TFA-Gly-EΔPhe

2017

The kinetics of photoisomerization of trifluoroacetyl-(Z)-dehydrophenylalanylglycine into trifluoroacetyl-(E)- dehydrophenylalanylglycine was studied in the hope that light-induced reaction could be useful as a means of preparation of the E-dehydropeptides. The obtained results indicate that if this reaction carried out under irradiation with light of wavelength 360 nm it is practically irreversible and gave nearly quantitatively pure Eisomer Significantly, expected cyclic side-products were not observed in the reaction mixture, thus proving the preparative potential of the elaborated procedure.

Conformational-Dependent Photodissociation of Glycolic Acid in an Argon Matrix

2023

Ultraviolet-induced photodissociation and photo-isomerization of the three most stable conformers (SSC, GAC, and AAT) of glycolic acid are investigated in a low-temperature solid argon matrix using FTIR spectroscopy and employing laser radiation with wavelengths of 212 nm, 226 nm, and 230 nm. The present work broadens the wavelength range of photochemical studies of glycolic acid, thus extending the understanding of the overall photochemistry of the compound. The proposed kinetic model for the photodissociation of glycolic acid proceeds from the lowest energy conformer (SSC). The model suggests that ultraviolet light induces isomerization only between the SSC and GAC conformers and between …

Diversity of Isomerization Patterns and Protolytic Forms in Aminocarbene PdII and PtII Complexes Formed upon Addition of N,N′-Diphenylguanidine to Me…

2017

Reaction of the palladium(II) and platinum(II) isocyanide complexes cis-[MCl2(CNR)2] [M = Pd, R = C6H3(2,6-Me2) (Xyl), 2-Cl-6-MeC6H3, cyclohexyl (Cy), t-Bu, C(Me)2CH2(Me)3 (1,1,3,3-tetramethylbuth-1-yl abbreviated as tmbu); M = Pt, R = Xyl, 2-Cl-6-MeC6H3, Cy, t-Bu, and tmbu] with N,N′-diphenylguanidine (DPG) leads to DPG-derived metal-bound deprotonated acyclic diaminocarbene (ADC) species. This reaction occurs via a two-step process, involving the initial coupling of the guanidine with one of the isocyanides and leading to deprotonated monocarbene monochelated species, while the next addition grants the deprotonated bis-carbene bis-chelated metal compounds. DPG behaves as nucleophile, depr…

Thiol-Stabilized Atomically Precise, Superatomic Silver Nanoparticles for Catalyzing Cycloisomerization of Alkynyl Amines

2018

Abstract Both the electronic and surface structures of metal nanomaterials play critical roles in determining their chemical properties. However, the non-molecular nature of conventional nanoparticles makes it extremely challenging to understand the molecular mechanism behind many of their unique electronic and surface properties. In this work, we report the synthesis, molecular and electronic structures of an atomically precise nanoparticle, [Ag206L72]q (L = thiolate, halide; q = charge). With a four-shell Ag7@Ag32@Ag77@Ag90 Ino-decahedral structure having a nearly perfect D5h symmetry, the metal core of the nanoparticle is co-stabilized by 68 thiolate and 4 halide ligands. Both electroche…

Theoretical Study of the Electronic Spectrum of trans-Stilbene

1997

The electronic spectrum of trans-stilbene in the energy range up to 6 eV has been studied using multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2). The study includes a geometry determination of the ground state. In all, 12 singlet and one triplet excited states were studied. The calculated spectrum makes it possible to assign the valence excited singlet states corresponding to the three bands observed in the low-energy region of the one-photon absorption spectrum. The most intense feature of the calculated spectrum corresponds to the 11Ag → 21Bu transition at 4.07 eV. The weakly allowed 11Bu state was found 0.3 eV below 21Bu. Transition to the 31Ag state, computed at 4.95 eV, i…
