Aging, rejuvenation, and memory phenomena in a lead-based relaxor ferroelectric

Isothermal aging and temperature cycle experiments were done on the relaxor ferroelectric lead magnesium niobate mixed with 10% lead titanate (PMN-10PT) around and below the diffuse maximum of the dielectric loss. With increasing aging time tw the isothermal evolution of the linear susceptibility follows a power law and does not show frequency scaling. The non-linear susceptibility, however, obeys nearly perfect ωt w-scaling. After aging the sample at a single temperature we observed both rejuvenation and memory effects in temperature cycle experiments. Thermodiffusion of sodium polystyrene sulfonate in a supporting electrolyte

Thermodiffusion, or the Soret phenomenon, is well understood in simple systems, but in multicomponent and polyvalent electrolyte systems the process becomes more complicated due to the coupling of fluxes. We experimentally investigate the time evolution of a concentration gradient generated by thermodiffusion of a polyelectrolyte (poly(sodium 4-styrene sulfonate), NaPSS) in a 1:1 supporting electrolyte. We also derive and solve the transport equations that are used to extract the Soret coefficient from the experimental observations. It is shown that NaPSS thermodiffusion in NaCl is strongly dependent on concentration, with almost 100% thermal separation in concentrations below 15 nmol L−1. …

Abstract Neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium nanopowders with nominal Nd:Y:Al ratio equal to X:3–X:5 (where X = 0, 0.006, 0.012, 0.024, 0.048, 0.081, 0.096, 0.171, 0.192, 0.384, 0.540 and 0.720) were prepared by the co-precipitation method and subjected to five cumulative stages of isothermal treatment in the temperature range from 900 to 1050 °C. The phase evolution of the oxides were investigated quantitatively by the X-ray powder diffraction approach using the Rietveld method of analysis. Uniformization of metric surfaces using isothermal coordinates

We establish a uniformization result for metric surfaces - metric spaces that are topological surfaces with locally finite Hausdorff 2-measure. Using the geometric definition of quasiconformality, we show that a metric surface that can be covered by quasiconformal images of Euclidean domains is quasiconformally equivalent to a Riemannian surface. To prove this, we construct suitable isothermal coordinates.
A stabilized finite element method for particulate two-phase flow equations laminar isothermal flow

A finite element method for the solution of particulate two-phase flows is presented. The governing system has the form of compressible Navier-Stokes equations with unknown pressure. Therefore, the proposed method must capture the main features of stabilized methods used for incompressible as well as for compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Solution of the resulting nonlinear algebraic system of equations is based on the linearization using Newton method in conjunction with Generalized Minimal Residual iterative solver and Incomplete LU preconditioning. The method has been tested for three test cases including venturi tube flow, flow over backward step and mixing of flows in t-junction.

Therefore, execution outside regular working hours of the molecular biology laboratory is limited. The eazyplex P. jirovecii assay (PJA) uses loop-mediated isothermal amplification for detection of P. jirovecii. Abstract Radial cracking around inclusions in a matrix originated by their differential elastic behavior allows the development of a new method for reconstructing the evolution of P-T paths during metamorphism. The appearance of radial cracking is a function of the variation of the elastic parameters between the matrix and inclusion, the initial P-T conditions of inclusion entrapment and the component of isothermal decompression characteristic for a retrograde path. A derivation of the isothermal quantum hydrodynamic equations using entropy minimization

Isothermal quantum hydrodynamic equations of order O(h 2 ) using the quantum entropy minimization method recently developed by Degond and Ringhofer are derived. The equations have the form of the usual quantum hydrodynamic model including a correction term of order O(h 2 ) which involves the vorticity. If the initial vorticity is of order 0(h), the standard model is obtained up to order O(h 4 ). The derivation is based on a careful expansion of the quantum equilibrium obtained from the entropy minimization in powers of h 2 .
Structure of the Human TRPML2 Ion Channel Extracytosolic/Lumenal Domain.

Summary TRPML2 is the least structurally characterized mammalian transient receptor potential mucolipin ion channel. The TRPML family hallmark is a large extracytosolic/lumenal domain (ELD) between transmembrane helices S1 and S2. We present crystal structures of the tetrameric human TRPML2 ELD at pH 6.5 (2.0 A) and 4.5 (2.95 A), corresponding to the pH values in recycling endosomes and lysosomes. Isothermal titration calorimetry shows Ca2+ binding to the highly acidic central pre-pore loop which is abrogated at low pH, in line with a pH-dependent channel regulation model.
