Online gas-solid adsorption studies with single atom quantities of Hg, Tl, and Pb on SiO$_{2}$ and Au surfaces were carried out using short-lived radioisotopes with half-lives in the range of 4-49 s. This is a model study to measure adsorption enthalpies of superheavy elements Cn, Nh, and Fl. The short-lived isotopes were produced and separated by the gas-filled recoil separator TASCA at GSI. The products were stopped in He gas, and flushed into gas chromatography columns made of Si detectors whose surfaces were covered by SiO$_{2}$ or Au. "Reactivity of Cu3Si of different genesis towards copper(I) chloride"

Abstract A comparative study of the reactivity between copper(I) chloride and three types of Cu 3 Si obtained in a molten medium (Cu 3 Si-Ref) and from mechanical activation following an annealing process (Cu 3 Si-M2AP) or a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (Cu 3 Si-MASHS) was performed by thermogravimetry under vacuum using non-isothermal and isothermal methods of kinetic measurement. It was established that for the three Cu 3 Si/CuCl systems, the acceleration and decay stages in the temperature range 145–215°C are very closely approximated by an equation of the Prout–Tompkins type where an autocatalytic process was proposed. Abstract The gas chromatography of mixtures of n -alkyl acetates (CH 3 COOR, R = C 1 —C 8 ) and methyl esters of aliphatic n -carboxylic acids (R′COOCH 3 , R′ = C 1 —C 8 ) and certain of their monochlorinated derivatives has been studied on Carbowax 20M and SE-30 glass capillary columns under the same operating conditions. The separation of the isomeric monochlorinated esters was complete on Carbowax 20M, whereas on SE-30 the peaks of 6- and 7-chlorooctyl acetates and methyl (ω − 1)- and (ω − 2)-chlorooctanoates and -nonanoates partly overlapped. The complete separation of the mixtures could not be achieved, however, on Carbowax 20M, in spite of the use of various operating conditions. The …

The ability of aqueous systems, formed by unimeric copolymers and their mixtures with a monomeric surfactant, in solubilizing large quantities of 1-nitropropane (PrNO2) was explored. The copolymers are F68 and L64, which differ for the hydrophilicity, and the surfactant is sodium dodecanoate. For a better understanding of the mechanism of solubilization, thermodynamic (volume and differential scanning calorimetry), spectroscopy (steady-state fluorescence), viscosity, and interfacial investigations were carried out. Cure kinetics of a cobalt catalysed dicyanate ester monomer in air and argon atmospheres from DSC data

A kinetic analysis of the cyclotrimerisation reaction of a dicyanate ester monomer catalysed by cobalt(II) acetylacetonate and nonylphenol in air and argon atmospheres has been carried out by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Dynamic and isothermal DSC scans as well as the glass transition temperature are the experimental data obtained. From isothermal scans a higher cyanate conversion in air than in argon was obtained. Abstract. The heterogeneous freezing temperatures of supercooled drops were measured using an acoustic levitator. This technique allows one to freely suspend single drops in the air without any wall contact. Heterogeneous nucleation by two types of illite (illite IMt1 and illite NX) and a montmorillonite sample was investigated in the immersion mode. Drops of 1 mm in radius were monitored by a video camera while cooled down to −28 °C to simulate freezing within the tropospheric temperature range. Comparative study on immersion freezing utilizing single-droplet levitation methods

Immersion freezing experiments were performed utilizing two distinct single-droplet levitation methods. In the Mainz vertical wind tunnel, supercooled droplets of 700 µm diameter were freely floated in a vertical airstream at constant temperatures ranging from −5 to −30 ∘C, where heterogeneous freezing takes place. These investigations under isothermal conditions allow the application of the stochastic approach to analyze and interpret the results in terms of the freezing or nucleation rate. Aqueous phase/nanoparticles interface: hydroxypropyl cellulose adsorption and desorption triggered by temperature and inorganic salts

The study highlighted the main forces driving the adsorption of hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) onto clay nanoparticles with a disk-like shape (Laponite RD). Modeling the isothermal titration calorimetry data provided the key thermodynamic properties, which enabled us to discuss the microscopic aspects contributing to the energetic and the entropic changes of the polymer adsorption at the nanoparticle/liquid interface. We evidenced that the process is strongly enthalpy-driven and that the interactions lead to constraints of the HPC configuration at interface.
