Empirical calibration of shell chemistry of Cyprideis torosa (Jones, 1850) (Crustacea: Ostracoda)

Abstract Cyprideis torosa is a species of ostracode that inhabits a wide range of aquatic habitats in which its low Alk/Ca requirement is met. Its fossil remains are widely used in palaeoecological studies of coastal environments and inland salt lakes. We collected C. torosa from 20 water bodies near Valencia, Spain. Temperature, chlorophyll a concentration, electrical conductivity, and the concentration of major ions and oxygen isotopes were measured at each site. Climatic dependence of stable carbon and oxygen isotope signals recorded in speleothems: From soil water to speleothem calcite

Abstract Understanding the relationship between stable isotope signals recorded in speleothems (δ 13 C and δ 18 O) and the isotopic composition of the carbonate species in the soil water is of great importance for their interpretation in terms of past climate variability. Here the evolution of the carbon isotope composition of soil water on its way down to the cave during dissolution of limestone is studied for both closed and open-closed conditions with respect to CO 2 . Modelling the δ18O value of cave drip water and speleothem calcite

Abstract Stable isotope signals recorded in speleothems have provided important insights about past climate variability in recent years. Quantitative reconstruction of mean annual temperature and the amount of precipitation, however, remains difficult because the stable isotope signals are influenced by various processes. Here we present a drip water model, which shows how these climate parameters affect the oxygen isotope signal of cave drip water. Refining the temperature dependence of the oxygen and clumped isotopic compositions of structurally bound carbonate in apatite

Abstract Clumped isotope data from carbonated apatite from in vivo and in vitro samples are presented to refine the relationship between mineral growth temperature and carbonate clumped isotopic composition (Δ47). Δ47, δ18O and δ13C data were obtained from phosphoric acid digestion (T = 110 °C) of chemically untreated teeth from an African elephant, Greenland sharks, sand tiger sharks and synthetic apatites. These data cover a temperature range between 1 °C and 80 °C and enlarge the calibration dataset presented in Wacker et al. (2016) by a factor of five. Constraining speleothem oxygen isotope disequilibrium driven by rapid CO2 degassing and calcite precipitation: Insights from monitoring and modeling

Abstract Oxygen isotopes are the most commonly applied speleothem proxy for reconstructing Quaternary changes in precipitation and/or temperature. These interpretations are either limited to qualitative wetting and drying trends or rely on theoretical, experimental and/or empirical equilibrium isotope fractionation factors for more quantitative constraints. Latitudinal variations of the O18/O16-ratios of carbonate and phosphate of cattle pancreatic stones parallel a similar pattern of oxygen isotope values in rain water. Oxygen isotopes in single micrometer-sized quartz grains: tracing the source of Saharan dust over long-distance atmospheric transport

Abstract Oxygen isotope compositions were measured by ion microprobe in individual micrometer-sized quartz grains extracted from one aerosol sample collected on the Cape Verde Islands and from four surface samples (three soils and one sediment) representing potential source regions of aerosols in Western and Central Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Niger, and Chad).
