This study addresses intercultural empathy as a concept, and if or how it might be present among conflicting parties, specifically between Palestinian and Israeli individuals. Since there are many definitions of the word “empathy,” the researcher examines previous definitions of this term, how it relates to intercultural empathy, and then offers a singular definition for the purpose of this study. Previous research has examined empathy in relationship to other familiar words, including “sympathy” and “compassion,” though there has been little research done on the term, “intercultural empathy,” as a whole, nor has it often been studied between specific conflicting parties. Celem artykułu jest szkic analizy konfliktu izraelsko-palestyńskiego, zwłaszcza w kontekście sposobu radzenia sobie przez państwo żydowskie z palestyńskim ruchem narodowowyzwoleńczym. W pierwszej części zwrócono uwagę na specyficzne okoliczności powstania Izraela – państwo to miejscowa ludność arabska uznała za ostatni europejski projekt kolonialny. Następnie opisano tak zwaną matrycę kontroli nad Palestyńczykami, którą zaprezentował antropolog i aktywista pokojowy Jeff Halper. W ostatniej części skupiono się na Operacji Ochronny Brzeg i jej ofiarach, głównie palestyńskich cywilach. Artykuł kończy się wskazaniem dwóch generalnych kierunków, w których może ewoluować opisywany konflikt.

The traditional historiography of early modern state-building has usually followed the western European paradigm of historiography, the usual models being France, England, Brandenburg-Prussia and Sweden. Regions that do not follow this paradigm have simply been left out and labeled “backward” or as “lagging behind”. In this literary review, our focus is on two different and rather surprising cases of early modern state formation: the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Spanish colonial empire in Latin America. BBS1 Mutations in a Wide Spectrum of Phenotypes Ranging From Nonsyndromic Retinitis Pigmentosa to Bardet-Biedl Syndrome

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the involvement of the Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) gene BBS1 p.M390R variant in nonsyndromic autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa (RP). METHODS: Homozygosity mapping of a patient with isolated RP was followed by BBS1 sequence analysis. We performed restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of the p.M390R allele in 2007 patients with isolated RP or autosomal recessive RP and in 1824 ethnically matched controls. Patients with 2 BBS1 variants underwent extensive clinical and ophthalmologic assessment.
