Prevalence of lumbosacral radiculopathy in two Sicilian municipalities

2009

Objectives - As part of a door-to-door survey of neurologic diseases, we investigated the prevalence of lumbosacral radiculopathy (LR) in two Sicilian municipalities (N = 14,540, as of November 1, 1987). Material & methods - During phase 1, we administered a brief screening instrument to subjects in the study population. In phase 2, study neurologists using specified diagnostic criteria investigated those subjects who screened positive. Our case finding was restricted to subjects who manifested symptoms of LR in the six months preceding the prevalence day. Results - We found 143 subjects affected by LR (112 definite, 31 possible) yielding a crude prevalence of 9.8 cases per 1,000 population…

OP0113 Lyme arthritis in southern norway - an endemic area for lyme borreliosis

2013

Background Southern Norway is an endemic area for Lyme borreliosis. IgG antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato ( Bb ) has been found in approx. 20% of the population (1). The main attention in Norway has been on neuroborreliosis (2). Despite the fact that arthritis is a well-known manifestation of Bb infection there is a lack of data on Lyme arthritis (LA). Objectives To characterize patients suggestive of having LA in southern Norway. Methods According to protocol patients aged 18 years or older with arthritis with a positive serology for Bb infection (IgG and/or IgM) suspicious of having LA were consecutively recruited either from general practitioners or from our own departme…

Aprūpe pacientiem pēc gūžas locītavas endoprotezēšanas stacionārā

2022

Toward the Development of Load Transfer Efficiency Evaluation of Rigid Pavements by a Rolling Wheel Deflectometer

2020

The jointed rigid pavement is currently evaluated by the Falling weight deflectometer which is rather slow for the testing of the jointed pavements. Continuous nondestructive evaluation of rigid pavements with a rolling wheel deflectometer can be used to measure the load transfer and is investigated. Load transfer is an important indicator of the rigid pavement&rsquo

The importance of fracture-healing on the deformation of fluid-filled layered systems

2014

International audience; Understanding the fracturingehealingerefracturing cycle is a fundamental part of studying the deformation dynamics and the permeability evolution of rock systems. Previous studies, however, have not examined the influence of healing i.e. fracture-closure through vein formation and the mechanical properties of the " healed " fractures (veins) on the rock deformation. We present results from a two-dimensional coupled hydro-mechanical model which simulates large time and spatial scale dynamic fracturing and healing of a porous medium under the influence of gravity, tectonic stretching and elevated fluid pressures. Our results show that healing decreases the local porosi…

Knee joint loading in the open and square stance tennis forehands

2013

Sandamas, Paul 2013. Knee joint loading in the open and square stance tennis forehands. Department of Biology of Physical Activity, University of Jyväskylä. Master's Thesis in Biomechanics. 80 pages. The aim of this study was to calculate and compare the resultant forces and moments in the knee joint of the open and square stance tennis forehands. An additional aim was to incorporate the ground reaction forces to shed light on the role of the lower body in aiding pelvic rotation in these two different forehands. The two types of forehand strokes hit by 7 right-handed university team level tennis players were filmed and the ground reaction forces on each foot were measured simultaneously. A …
