Application of the star-product method to the angular momentum quantization

We define a *-product on ℝ3 and solve the polarization equation f*C=0 where C is the Casimir of the coadjoint representation of SO(3). We compute the action of SO(3) on the space of solutions. We then examine the case of non-zero eigenvalues of C, in order to find finite-dimensional representations of SO(3). Finally, we compute \(\sqrt C *\sqrt C \) as an asymptotic series of C. This gives an explanation of the use of the star square root of C in a paper by Bayen et al. instead of its natural square root.

Invariant natural killer T cells act as an extravascular cytotoxic barrier for joint-invading Lyme Borrelia

CXCR6-GFP(+) cells, which encompass 70% invariant natural killer T cells (iNKT cells), have been found primarily patrolling inside blood vessels in the liver. Although the iNKT cells fail to interact with live pathogens, they do respond to bacterial glycolipids presented by CD1d on liver macrophage that have caught the microbe. In contrast, in this study using dual laser multichannel spinning-disk intravital microscopy of joints, the CXCR6-GFP, which also made up 60-70% iNKT cells, were not found in the vasculature but rather closely apposed to and surrounding the outside of blood vessels, and to a lesser extent throughout the extravascular space. A fatal iatrogenic right vertebral injury after transoral odontoidectomy and posterior cervical stabilization for a type II odontoid fracture.

Abstract The authors present a singular case of an iatrogenic right vertebral artery injury, involving a 67 year-old man, who reported a type II odontoid fracture (Anderson and D'Alonzo Classification) and posterior atlantoaxial dislocation following a road traffic accident. A small injury involving the right vertebral artery occurred as a consequence of transoral odontoidectomy and posterior cervical stabilization. Abstract Purpose The management of cervical facet dislocation injuries remains controversial. The main purpose of this investigation was to identify whether a surgeon’s geographic location or years in practice influences their preferred management of traumatic cervical facet dislocation injuries. Methods A survey was sent to 272 AO Spine members across all geographic regions and with a variety of practice experience. The survey included clinical case scenarios of cervical facet dislocation injuries and asked responders to select preferences among various diagnostic and management options. Abstract It is shown how one can effectively use microdata in modelling the change over time in an aggregate (e.g. mean consumption expenditure) of a large and heterogeneous population. The starting point of our aggregation analysis is a specification of explanatory variables on the micro-level. Critical point and coexistence curve properties of the Lennard-Jones fluid: A finite-size scaling study

Monte Carlo simulations within the grand canonical ensemble are used to explore the liquid-vapour coexistence curve and critical point properties of the Lennard-Jones fluid. Attention is focused on the joint distribution of density and energy fluctuations at coexistence. In the vicinity of the critical point, this distribution is analysed using mixed-field finite-size scaling techniques aided by histogram reweighting methods. The analysis yields highly accurate estimates of the critical point parameters, as well as exposing the size and character of corrections to scaling. A joint action of deep eutectic solvents and ultrasound to promote Diels−Alder reaction in a sustainable way

The need to reduce environmental impact of chemical processes has induced a surge of attention in the choice of solvent and methodologies to carry them out. In this context, we studied the Diels−Alder reaction using N-ethylmaleimide as dienophile and changing the nature of the diene in deep eutectic solvents (DES) under both conventional heating and ultrasonic activation. DES obtained by the combination of different hydrogen bond acceptors and donors allowed assessing the role played by solvent nature. The short range order in the amorphous CuCu (EDTA) (H2O)2, 2H2O is studied by Large Angle X-ray Scattering (LAXS) and molecular mechanics. Three conformations of the complex molecule are shown to be energetically equivalent, two of which are simultaneously present in the amorphous material.

In case char F=0, we classify the torsion groups G for which Un(FG) satisfies a group identity not vanishing on 2-elements. Along the way we actually prove that, in characteristic 0, the unitary group Un(FG) does not contain a free group of rank 2 if FG − , the Lie algebra of skew elements of FG, is Lie nilpotent. Motivated by this connection we characterize most groups G for which FG − is Lie nilpotent and char F≠2.

Friction Stir Spot Welding of AA6082-T6: influence of the most relevant process parameters and comparison with classic mechanical fastening techniques

The results of an experimental study on friction stir spot welding (FSSW) of AA6082-T6 are reported. In particular, process mechanics is highlighted and joint strength is considered in relation to varying the most relevant process parameters. Furthermore, the results obtained are compared with those derived from the application of traditional mechanical fastening techniques such as clinching and riveting. In this way the effectiveness of FSSW is highlighted.
