Abstract This paper represents the first effort aimed to the investigation of the pin/hole contact stress and failure mechanisms of epoxy composites reinforced with woven flax fabrics, underwent to tensile bearing tests. Abstract The use of air-coupled sensors to detect flaws in Al welded joints and the advantage of Lamb wave for their characterization has been proved. Ultrasonic waves were generated by a pulsed laser and by contact angle-beam transducer, and received by an air-coupled capacitive transducer. In this paper, the influence of several parameters on the mechanical behaviour and failure modes of hybrid bonded joints aluminium/composite was investigated. Particularly, the effects of metallic surface condition, adhesive properties and thickness on single-lap joint resistance were analysed. A shear test for structural adhesives used in the consolidation of old timber

A test method was developed specifically for structural adhesives used in thick joints. It is based on compressive shear loading of glued joints (GJ) and solid wood (SW) specimens, before and after a suitable accelerated ageing cycle. The evaluation of results is based on the ratios of wet strength to dry strength and on the comparison of GJ specimens to SW specimens which are prepared from the same batch of wood, in order to minimise the influence of the variability in wood characteristics. Abstract Tritium release at annealing of samples cut from beryllium tiles exposed to D + D, D + T plasma in the Joint European Torus (JET) was investigated under 5 MeV fast-electron radiation at the dose rate 14 MGy h −1 and in a magnetic field of 1.7 T separately and simultaneously in order to evaluate possible effects of these factors. Abundances of chemical forms of tritium—molecular T 2 (44%), atomic T 0 (42%), and ionic T + (14%) and their distribution were determined in the plasma-exposed beryllium samples with lyomethods. Using a neural network for predicting the average grain size in friction stir welding processes

In the paper the microstructural phenomena in terms of average grain size occurring in friction stir welding (FSW) processes are focused. A neural network was linked to a finite element model (FEM) of the process to predict the average grain size values. The utilized net was trained starting from experimental data and numerical results of butt joints and then tested on further butt, lap and T-joints. The obtained results show the capability of the AI technique in conjunction with the FE tool to predict the final microstructure in the FSW joints.
