Ziziphora tenuior L. essential oil from Dana Biosphere Reserve (Southern Jordan); chemical characterization and assessment of biological activities

2016

Abstract Ethnopharmacologic relevance Ziziphora tenuior L. (Lamiaceae) is a medicinal plant in Jordan, which is included in various antimicrobial, antiseptic, expectorant and wound healing preparations. It is used for the treatment of cough, stomach ache, dysentery, fever, uterus infection, gut inflammation and painful menstruation. Aim of the study The aim of this study was to assess, for the first time, the chemical composition of the essential oil of Z. tenuior originated from southern Jordan and its antifungal effects against several yeasts. Concomitantly, the mechanisms behind the anti-fungal activity against Candida albicans were also disclosed. Since the Z. tenuior traditional uses a…

Inmersiones de superficies en Rn+2

2019

Cholinesterase variants: rapid characterisation by PCR/SSCP and evidence for molecular homogeneity.

1995

We have applied the technique of PCR-SSCP (polymerase chain reaction-single stranded conformation polymorphism) to characterise the molecular basis of cholinesterase deficiency and variants in a Jordanian family. PCR-SSCP proved to be a quick and sensitive method of screening cholinesterase variants in a clinical setting. An AG insertion at position 351 was found to cause a silent allele, for which the parents were heterozygous and three children homozygous. In addition, the father and two sons were heterozygous for an A to G transition at position 209, known to cause the dibucaine resistant variant. No linkage to the K variant was found, which has been reported previously in white populati…

Tongue lesions in a Jordanian population. Prevalence, symptoms, subject's knowledge and treatment provided.

2010

Tongue lesions constitute a considerable proportion of oral mucosal lesions, and are health concern to both oral health care providers and public. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of tongue lesions and conditions among a group of Jordanian population attending dental clinics, in addition to assessment of their symptoms, knowledge, and treatment provided for their tongue lesions. Study design: A total of 2000 dental out-patients were screened for tongue lesions. Results: Fissured tongue was the most common tongue lesion diagnosed in 11.5% of the subjects, followed by coated tongue (8.2%), geographic tongue (4.8%), hairy tongue (2.4%) and median rhomboid gloss…

A note on cocharacter sequence of Jordan upper triangular matrix algebra

2016

Let UJn(F) be the Jordan algebra of n × n upper triangular matrices over a field F of characteristic zero. This paper is devoted to the study of polynomial identities satisfied by UJ2(F) and UJ3(F). In particular, the goal is twofold. On one hand, we complete the description of G-graded polynomial identities of UJ2(F), where G is a finite abelian group. On the other hand, we compute the Gelfand–Kirillov dimension of the relatively free algebra of UJ2(F) and we give a bound for the Gelfand–Kirillov dimension of the relatively free algebra of UJ3(F).

Banach elements and spectrum in Banach quasi *-algebras

2006

A normal Banach quasi -algebra (X;A_0) has a distinguished Banach - algebra X_b consisting of bounded elements of X. The latter -algebra is shown to coincide with the set of elements of X having fi nite spectral radius. If the family P(X) of bounded invariant positive sesquilinear forms on X contains suffi ciently many elements then the Banach -algebra of bounded elements can be characterized via a C -seminorm defi ned by the elements of P(X).

Codimension growth of special simple Jordan algebras

2009

Let $R$ be a special simple Jordan algebra over a field of characteristic zero. We exhibit a noncommutative Jordan polynomial $f$ multialternating on disjoint sets of variables which is not a polynomial identity of $R$. We then study the growth of the polynomial identities of the Jordan algebra $R$ through an analysis of its sequence of Jordan codimensions. By exploiting the basic properties of the polynomials $f$, we are able to compute the exponential rate of growth of the sequence of Jordan codimensions of $R$ and prove that it equals the dimension of the Jordan algebra over its center. We also show that for any finite dimensional special Jordan algebra, such exponential rate of growth c…

The Religion of Ammon

2015

The Ammonites, a people living east of the Jordan River, were neighbors of the ancient Israelites. The Old Testament (1 Kings, 11,5; 2 Kings, 23,13) and probably an inscription from the citadel of Amman mention Milkom as the supreme God of the Ammonites. Most Ammonite names did not contain the name of their national god, but used a more generic divine name, ’El. We don’t know if the name: ’El refers to the Canaanite god or to a local manifestation of this deity. Ammonites also worshiped other deities (i.e. ‘Astarte, ‘Anat, Ba‘al, Hadad/’Adad, Qos, Samas, YHWH and Yerah). A number of limestone statues and clay figurines of bearded individuals wearing an atef-crown could be Ammonite monarchs …

Artemisia herba-alba essential oil from Buseirah (South Jordan): Chemical characterization and assessment of safe antifungal and anti-inflammatory do…

2015

Abstract Ethnopharmacologic relevance Artemisia herba-alba Asso (“desert wormwood” in English; “armoise blanche” in French; “shaih” in Arabic), is a medicinal and strongly aromatic plant widely used in traditional medicine by many cultures since ancient times. It is used to treat inflammatory disorders (colds, coughing, bronchitis, diarrhea), infectious diseases (skin diseases, scabies, syphilis) and others (diabetes, neuralgias). In Jordanian traditional medicine, this plant is used as antiseptic and against skin diseases, scabies, syphilis, fever as well as menstrual and nervous disorders. Aim of the study Considering the traditional medicinal uses and the lack of scientific studies addre…

Nei luoghi di confine. Architettura e progetto in Giordania / In border places. Architecture and project in Jordan

2015
