Noise and gain performance of PSA transistor series for personal communication systems vs. emitter number and operating conditions

1995

The booming market of communication system applications in the low microwave range put greater demands on the component performance at lower supply voltages and limited current consumption, as well as on production cost and integration level. In this work, we present the results of an extensive characterization activity carried out on several advanced polysilicon bipolar transistors as requested by the manufacturer. The devices were grouped according to their emitter finger number and were characterized over the 2-6 GHz frequency range in terms of noise, gain and scatterino parameters at different bias conditions. A comparative analysis has been performed to explore how the transistor perfo…

Electrical-optical characterization of multijunction solar cells under 2000X concentration

2014

In the framework of the FAE "Fotovoltaico ad Alta Efficienza" ("High Efficiency Photovoltaic") Research Project (PO FESR Sicilia 2007/2013 4.1.1.1), we have performed electrical and optical characterizations of commercial InGaP/InGaAs/Ge triple-junction solar cells (1 cm2) mounted on a prototype HCPV module, installed in Palermo (Italy). This system uses a reflective optics based on rectangular off-axis parabolic mirror with aperture 45×45 cm2 leading to a geometrical concentration ratio of 2025. In this study, we report the I-V curve measured under incident power of about 700 W/m2 resulting in an electrical power at maximum point (PMP) of 41.4 W. We also investigated the optical properties…

Melatonin alleviates Ochratoxin A-induced liver inflammation involved intestinal microbiota homeostasis and microbiota-independent manner.

2021

Melatonin (MEL) shows an anti-inflammatory effect and regulates intestinal microbiota communities in animals and humans; Ochratoxin A (OTA) induces liver inflammation through intestinal microbiota. However, it remains to know whether MEL alleviates the liver inflammation induced by OTA. In this study, MEL reversed various adverse effects induced by OTA. MEL recovered the swarming and motility of intestinal microbiota, decreased the accumulation of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), enhanced the tight junction proteins of jejunum and cecum segments; ultimately alleviated OTA-induced liver inflammation in ducks. However, it is worth noting that MEL still had positive effects on the OTA-exposed ducks a…

Polmunary epithelial barrier formation on biodegradable poly-L-lactic-acid (PLLA) membrane

2016

Aims: Investigation of epithelial barrier formation using PLLA membranes for application in bioengineering. Background: The development of functional and biocompatible substitutes for damaged tissue or organs is a major challenge in biomedical engineering. The epithelial barrier plays a central role in tissue homeostasis and immunity preventing damage and contamination of the interstitial tissues. Different in vitro models of the lung and intestinal epithelial barriers have been well characterized, however these tend to use non-biodegradable and/or poorly biocompatible scaffolds. Therefore, there is a need for better supports for epithelial cells for future applications in tissue engineerin…

The gap junctional intercellular communication is no prerequisite for the stabilization of xenobiotic metabolizing enzyme activities in primary rat l…

1995

In primary monocultures of adult rat liver parenchymal cells (PC), the activities of the xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes microsomal epoxide hydrolase (mEHb), soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH), glutathione S-transferases (GST), and phenolsulfotransferase (ST) were reduced after 7 d to values below 33% of the initial activities. Furthermore, the gap junctional intercellular communication (GJIC), measured after microinjection by dye transfer, decreased from 90% on Day 1 to undetectable values after 5 d in monoculture. Co-culture of PC with nonparenchymal rat liver epithelial cells (NEC) increased (98% on Day 1) and stabilized (82% on Day 7) the homotypic GJIC of PC. Additionally, most of the mea…

The influence of Coulomb interaction screening on the excitons in disordered two-dimensional insulators.

2021

AbstractWe study the joint effect of disorder and Coulomb interaction screening on the exciton spectra in two-dimensional (2D) structures. These can be van der Waals structures or heterostructures of organic (polymeric) semiconductors as well as inorganic substances like transition metal dichalcogenides. We consider 2D screened hydrogenic problem with Rytova–Keldysh interaction by means of so-called fractional Scrödinger equation. Our main finding is that above synergy between screening and disorder either destroys the exciton (strong screening) or promote the creation of a bound state, leading to its collapse in the extreme case. Our second finding is energy levels crossing, i.e. the degen…

Probabilistic entailment in the setting of coherence: The role of quasi conjunction and inclusion relation

2013

In this paper, by adopting a coherence-based probabilistic approach to default reasoning, we focus the study on the logical operation of quasi conjunction and the Goodman-Nguyen inclusion relation for conditional events. We recall that quasi conjunction is a basic notion for defining consistency of conditional knowledge bases. By deepening some results given in a previous paper we show that, given any finite family of conditional events F and any nonempty subset S of F, the family F p-entails the quasi conjunction C(S); then, given any conditional event E|H, we analyze the equivalence between p-entailment of E|H from F and p-entailment of E|H from C(S), where S is some nonempty subset of F.…

SHARP 2020: The 1st Shape Recovery from Partial Textured 3D Scans Challenge Results

2020

The SHApe Recovery from Partial textured 3D scans challenge, SHARP 2020, is the first edition of a challenge fostering and benchmarking methods for recovering complete textured 3D scans from raw incomplete data. SHARP 2020 is organised as a workshop in conjunction with ECCV 2020. There are two complementary challenges, the first one on 3D human scans, and the second one on generic objects. Challenge 1 is further split into two tracks, focusing, first, on large body and clothing regions, and, second, on fine body details. A novel evaluation metric is proposed to quantify jointly the shape reconstruction, the texture reconstruction and the amount of completed data. Additionally, two unique da…

Generalized Logical Operations among Conditional Events

2018

We generalize, by a progressive procedure, the notions of conjunction and disjunction of two conditional events to the case of n conditional events. In our coherence-based approach, conjunctions and disjunctions are suitable conditional random quantities. We define the notion of negation, by verifying De Morgan’s Laws. We also show that conjunction and disjunction satisfy the associative and commutative properties, and a monotonicity property. Then, we give some results on coherence of prevision assessments for some families of compounded conditionals; in particular we examine the Frechet-Hoeffding bounds. Moreover, we study the reverse probabilistic inference from the conjunction $\mathcal…

Quasi conjunction, quasi disjunction, t-norms and t-conorms: Probabilistic aspects

2013

We make a probabilistic analysis related to some inference rules which play an important role in nonmonotonic reasoning. In a coherence-based setting, we study the extensions of a probability assessment defined on $n$ conditional events to their quasi conjunction, and by exploiting duality, to their quasi disjunction. The lower and upper bounds coincide with some well known t-norms and t-conorms: minimum, product, Lukasiewicz, and Hamacher t-norms and their dual t-conorms. On this basis we obtain Quasi And and Quasi Or rules. These are rules for which any finite family of conditional events p-entails the associated quasi conjunction and quasi disjunction. We examine some cases of logical de…
