Measurement of the W+b-jet and W+c-jet differential production cross sections in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

We present a measurement of the cross sections for the associated production of a $W$ boson with at least one heavy quark jet, $b$ or $c$, in proton-antiproton collisions. Data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb$^{-1}$ recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron \ppbar Collider at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV are used to measure the cross sections differentially as a function of the jet transverse momenta in the range 20 to 150 GeV. These results are compared to calculations of perturbative QCD theory as well as predictions from Monte Carlo generators.

HighpThadrons as probes of the central region of Au-Au collisions atSNN=200GeV

The energy loss of high ${p}_{T}$ partons propagating through a hot and dense medium is regarded as a valuable tool to probe the medium created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. The angular correlation pattern of hadrons associated with a hard trigger in the region of ${p}_{T}~1\text{\ensuremath{-}}2$ GeV which exhibits a dip in the expected position of the away side jet has given rise to the idea that energy is lost predominantly to propagating collective modes (`Mach cones'). Search for Single Vectorlike Quarks inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96  TeV

We present a search for hypothetical vector-like quarks in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. The data were collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb^(-1). We select events with a final state composed of a W or Z boson and a jet consistent with a heavy object decay. We observe no significant excess in comparison to the background prediction and set limits on production cross sections for vector-like quarks decaying to W+jet and Z+jet. These are the most stringent mass limits for electroweak single vector-like quark production at hadron colliders.

Forward quark jet-nucleus scattering in a light-front Hamiltonian approach

We investigate the scattering of a quark jet on a high-energy heavy nucleus using the time-dependent light-front Hamiltonian approach. We simulate a real-time evolution of the quark in a strong classical color field of the relativistic nucleus, described as the Color Glass Condensate. We study the sub-eikonal effect by letting the quark jet carry realistic finite longitudinal momenta, and we find sizeable changes on the transverse coordinate distribution of the quark. We also observe the energy loss of the quark through gluon emissions in the $\ket{q}+\ket{qg}$ Fock space. This approach provides us with an opportunity to study scattering processes from non-perturbative aspects.

Determination of sin^2(theta(eff)(w)) using jet charge measurements in hadronic Z decays

The electroweak mixing angle is determined with high precision from measurements of the mean difference between forward and backward hemisphere charges in hadronic decays of the Z. A data sample of 2.5 million hadronic Z decays recorded over the period 1990 to 1994 in the ALEPH detector at LEP is used. The mean charge separation between event hemispheres containing the original quark and antiquark is measured for b (b) over bar and c (c) over bar events in subsamples selected by their long lifetimes or using fast D*'s. Infrared singularities of scattering amplitudes in perturbative QCD

An exact formula is derived for the infrared singularities of dimensionally regularized scattering amplitudes in massless QCD with an arbitrary number of legs, valid at any number of loops. It is based on the conjecture that the anomalous-dimension matrix of n-jet operators in soft-collinear effective theory contains only a single non-trivial color structure, whose coefficient is the cusp anomalous dimension of Wilson loops with light-like segments. Its color-diagonal part is characterized by two anomalous dimensions, which are extracted to three-loop order from known perturbative results for the quark and gluon form factors. The running of the b-quark mass from LEP data

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to three jet heavy quark production in $e^+ e^-$ collisions, including quark mass effects, are presented. The extraction of the b-quark mass form LEP data is considered and the first experimental evidence for the running of a quark mass is discussed.

Constraining energy loss from high-pT azimuthal asymmetries

The nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm AA}$ has been satisfactorily described by various jet quenching models. Nonetheless, all these formalisms, until very recently, underpredicted the high-$p_{\rm T}$ (> 10 GeV) elliptic flow $v_2$. We find that the simultaneous description of these observables requires to strongly suppress the quenching for the first $\sim 0.6$ fm after the collision. This shows the potential of jet quenching observables to constrain the dynamics of the initial stages of the evolution.

The Influence of Flow on the Jet Quenching Power in Heavy-Ion Collisions

The flow pattern and evolution of the medium created in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions can have significant influence on the energy loss of hard partons traversing the medium. We demonstrate that within a range of assumptions for longitudinal and transverse flow which are all compatible with the measured hadronic single particle distributions, the quenching power of the medium can vary within almost a factor five. Thus, the choice of the medium evolution is one of the biggest uncertainties in jet quenching calculations and needs to be addressed with some care.

Measurements of inclusive jet spectra in pp and central Pb-Pb collisions at sNN=5.02TeV

This article reports measurements of the pT- differential inclusive jet cross section in pp collisions at √s=5 .02TeV and the pT- differential inclusive jet yield in Pb-Pb 0–10% central collisions at√sNN =5.02TeV. Jets were reconstructed at midrapidity with the ALICE tracking detectors and electromagnetic calorimeter using the anti-kT algorithm. For ppcollisions, we report jet cross sections for jet resolution parameters R =0.1–0.6 over the range 20 < pT, jet < 140 GeV/c, as well as the jet cross-section ratios of different R and comparisons to two next-to-leading-order (NLO)– based theoretical predictions.
