Enhanced Thin-Film Transistor Performance by Combining 13,6-N-Sulfinylacetamidopentacene with Printed PEDOT:PSS Electrodes

2011

Bottom-contact/bottom-gate organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) are fabricated using a soluble pentacene precursor (13,6-N-sulfinylacetamidopentacene; SAP) and inkjet printed PEDOT:PSS electrodes on bare SiO2 dielectrics. Saturation mobility, Ion/Ioff ratio, and threshold voltage parameters, respectively, of 0.27 cm2 V−1 s−1, 105, and −4.25 V were measured under ambient conditions after the thermal conversion of SAP to pentacene in 100 μm long channel OTFT devices. The results obtained by the above solution approach are comparable to that of vapor-phase grown pentacene-based OTFTs with photolithographic gold contacts and organic buffer layers and/or inorganic injection layers. The present …

Novel method for determination of tritium depth profiles in metallic samples

2019

Tritium accumulation in fusion reactor materials is considered a serious radiological issue, therefore a lot of effort has been concentrated on the development of radiometric techniques. A novel method, based on gradual dissolution, for the determination of the total tritium content and its depth profiles in metallic samples is demonstrated. This method allows for the measurement of tritium in metallic samples after their exposure to a hydrogen and tritium mixture, tritium containing plasma or after irradiation with neutrons resulting in tritium formation. In this method, successive layers of metal are removed using an appropriate etching agent in the controlled regime and the amount of evo…

Modeling of intracellular transport in realistic cell geometries

2018

The transport of molecules inside cells is a complex process, the characterization of which is important to gain full understanding of cellular processes. Understanding of intracellular transport is also important for medical applications, for example when analyzing transport of medicine inside cells. The intracellular environment is very complex, and at least the most crucial parts of this complexity must be accounted for to solve transport problems in cells. In this thesis the results of studies in modeling intracellular transport are presented. The aim of the work was to model intracellular transport of proteins and viral capsids in realistic cell environments. To this end, microscopic m…

Many-particle theory for time-dependent quantum transport in nanostructures

2012

During the recent decades, molecular electronics has established its place as one of the promising fields in the nanoscience. The possibility to manufacture and control molecular junctions where single molecules are squeezed between the conducing electrodes has opened up new possibilities to develop nanoscale devices which could be employed as building blocks for future nanoelectronic applications. The driving force for this new branch of physics has been the experimental advances but also theoretical methods have been under intensive study and many theoretical tools have been developed to understand the electron transport processes in the nanoscale systems. This thesis focuses on developin…

Effects of self-efficacy on healthy eating depends on normative support: a prospective study of long-haul truck drivers

2017

Purpose Fruit and vegetable intake (FV) is insufficient in industrialized nations and there is excess of discretionary food choices (DC; foods high in fat, sugar, and salt). Long-haul truck drivers are considered a particularly at-risk group given the limited food choices and normatively reinforced eating habits at truck rest-stops. Self-efficacy and normative support are key determinants of eating behavior yet the processes underlying their effects on behavior are not well understood. We tested the direct and interactive effects of self-efficacy and normative support on healthy eating behaviors in long-haul truck drivers in a prospective correlational study. Method Long-haul truck drivers …

Rekkamiesten työn rytmihäiriöt

2015

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan suomalaisten rekkamiesten työn rytmihäiriöitä sekä niiden vaikutusta kuljettajien kokemusten ja toimintamahdollisuuksien muotoutumiseen. Tutkimuksen aineisto kerättiin etnografisin menetelmin, joka tarkoitti osallistumista kymmenen rekkamiehen työreissuille vuoden 2013 aikana. Tarkastelu eroteltiin analyyttisesti kahteen eri vaiheeseen. Aluksi aineistosta tunnistettiin kaksi päärytmiä, työn rytmi ja yhteiskunnan rytmi sekä kaksi työn rytmiä kuvaavaa alarytmiä, logistiikan rytmi ja juridinen rytmi. Analyysin toisessa vaiheessa keskityttiin rytmien välisten jännitteiden tarkasteluun. Tämän artikkelin tarkoituksena on kuvata rytmien ja kuljettajien toimintamahdollisu…

Jet mass and substructure of inclusive jets in $ \sqrt {s} = 7\;{\text{TeV}} $ pp collisions with the ATLAS experiment

2012

Recent studies have highlighted the potential of jet substructure techniques to identify the hadronic decays of boosted heavy particles. These studies all rely upon the assumption that the internal substructure of jets generated by QCD radiation is well understood. In this article, this assumption is tested on an inclusive sample of jets recorded with the ATLAS detector in 2010, which corresponds to 35 pb-1 of pp collisions delivered by the LHC at √s = 7TeV. In a subsample of events with single pp collisions, measurements corrected for detector efficiency and resolution are presented with full systematic uncertainties. Jet invariant mass, kt splitting scales and N-subjettiness variables are…

Centrality-Dependent Modification of Jet-Production Rates in Deuteron-Gold Collisions at √sNN = 200 GeV

2016

Jet production rates are measured in p þ p and d þ Au collisions at √sNN = 200  GeV recorded in 2008 with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Jets are reconstructed using the R ¼ 0.3 anti-kt algorithm from energy deposits in the electromagnetic calorimeter and charged tracks in multiwire proportional chambers, and the jet transverse momentum (pT ) spectra are corrected for the detector response. Spectra are reported for jets with 12 < pT < 50 GeV=c, within a pseudorapidity acceptance of jηj < 0.3. The nuclear-modification factor (RdAu) values for 0%–100% d þ Au events are found to be consistent with unity, constraining the role of initial state effects on jet product…

Sensitivity of jet quenching to enhancement of the medium opacity near TC

2014

[Introduction] One of the main goals of the study of high transverse momentum ( P T ) observables in the context of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions is the determination of properties of QCD matter. In particular, the transport coefficients ˆ q and ˆ e characterizing the interaction of the medium with a high p T parton are accessible via hard probes. However, a precision extraction of their temperature dependence from current data faces the problem that neither the space-time geometry of the evolving matter nor the link between thermodynamics and transport coefficients is unambiguously known. Thus, various conjectured scenarios exist for how thermodynamics and transport coefficients b…
