Extracting qˆ in event-by-event hydrodynamics and the centrality/energy puzzle

2017

In our analysis, we combine event-by-event hydrodynamics, within the EKRT formulation, with jet quenching -ASW Quenching Weights- to obtain high- for charged particles at RHIC and LHC energies for different centralities. By defining a K-factor that quantifies the departure of from an ideal estimate, , we fit the single-inclusive experimental data for charged particles. This K-factor is larger at RHIC than at the LHC but, surprisingly, it is almost independent of the centrality of the collision. peerReviewed

Jet shape modification in Pb-Pb collisions at √S[sub]N[sub]N= 2.76 TeV using two-particle correlations

2018

This thesis focuses on two separate topics. The first topic concerns the upgrade of the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) detector of the ALICE experiment. The upgrade will take place during the second Long Shutdown (2019-2020). The part of the upgrade I participated in was the replacement of the detector’s current readout electronics with Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) foils. This change would allow for the continuous readout of the data, resulting in a hundredfold increase in the amount of data the ALICE experiment can process, as the TPC is the central tracking detector. I was involved in the Quality Assurance (QA) of these GEM foils. The advanced QA procedure consists of three measurements, a…

Exploration of jet substructure using iterative declustering in pp and Pb–Pb collisions at LHC energies

2020

The ALICE collaboration at the CERN LHC reports novel measurements of jet substructure in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$= 7 TeV and central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV. Jet substructure of track-based jets is explored via iterative declustering and grooming techniques. We present the measurement of the momentum sharing of two-prong substructure exposed via grooming, the $z_{\rm{g}}$, and its dependence on the opening angle, in both pp and Pb-Pb collisions. We also present the first measurement of the distribution of the number of branches obtained in the iterative declustering of the jet, which is interpreted as the number of its hard splittings. In Pb-Pb collisions, we…

The WEBT BL Lacertae Campaign 2001 and its extension : Optical light curves and colour analysis 1994–2002

2004

BL Lacertae has been the target of four observing campaigns by the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope (WEBT) collaboration. In this paper we present UBVRI light curves obtained by theWEBT from 1994 to 2002, including the last, extended BL Lac 2001 campaign. A total of about 7500 optical observations performed by 31 telescopes from Japan to Mexico have been collected, to be added to the ∼15 600 observations of the BL Lac Campaign 2000. All these data allow one to follow the source optical emission behaviour with unprecedented detail. The analysis of the colour indices reveals that the flux variability can be interpreted in terms of two components: longer-term variations occurring on a fewday time …

High-energy resummation effects in the production of Mueller-Navelet dijet at the LHC

2016

We study the production of two forward jets with a large interval of rapidity at hadron colliders, which was proposed by Mueller and Navelet as a possible test of the high energy dynamics of QCD, within a complete next-to-leading logarithm framework. We show that using the Brodsky-Lepage-Mackenzie procedure to fix the renormalization scale leads to a very good description of the recent CMS data at the LHC for the azimuthal correlations of the jets. We show that the inclusion of next-to-leading order corrections to the jet vertex significantly reduces the importance of energy-momentum non-conservation which is inherent to the BFKL approach, for an asymmetric jet configuration. Finally, we ar…
