An 18S rDNA-Based Molecular Phylogeny of Aphidiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)
2000
We have obtained a molecular phylogeny of the subfamily Aphidiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) by sequencing the 18S rDNA in 37 aphidiine taxa. Approximately 1857 nucleotides were sequenced in each species. Evolutionary relationships were established by comparing the results of maximum-parsimony, maximum-likelihood, and distance analyses. The most variable region of this gene, V4 (approx 403 nucleotides), was employed to establish the basality of the tribe Ephedrini within this subfamily. All phylogenetic reconstructions yielded trees with very similar topologies that confirmed the existence of two of the four traditionally accepted tribes, Ephedrini and Praini, but questioned the existence o…
On the origin and systematics of the northern African wood mouse (<i>Apodemus sylvaticus</i>) populations: a comparative study of mtDNA r…
2001
Conflicting hypotheses have been formulated regarding the origin of wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus) populations in northern Africa. In this study, the mtDNA restriction patterns of mice (n = 28) collected in Tunisia and Morocco are compared with those of representatives from southern Europe (n = 102). The neighbour-joining tree confirms the existence of the three lineages previously found in the Mediterranean area: western, TyrrhenianBalkan, and Sicilian. The western group is isolated from the two others, with bootstrap values of 89 and 95%. Northern African patterns are included in the western group. Their variability is low, the same pattern being shared by five Tunisian and all Morocca…
Torsional shear strength and elastic properties of adhesively bonded glass-to-steel components
2020
Nowadays glass is widely used in building applications and coupled to steel through adhesive joining. Reliable mechanical characterization of these joints is necessary to design and predict the final structure performance. In this framework, the aim of this paper is to measure the pure shear strength and elastic modulus for design and modelling of adhesive joined glass-to-steel structures.Torsional shear strength and elastic properties of an adhesively bonded glass-to-steel component were measured on several joined steel-to-steel and steel-to-glass samples. An epoxy resin-based adhesive was used as joining material for AISI304 steel and soda-lime glass. The same steel and adhesive were used to…

A method for determining the position and size of optimal sequence regions for phylogenetic analysis.
1995
The availability of fast and accurate sequencing procedures along with the use of PCR has led to a proliferation of studies of variability at the molecular level in populations. Nevertheless, it is often impractical to examine long genomic stretches and a large number of individuals at the same time. In order to optimize this kind of study, we suggest a heuristic procedure for detection of the shortest region whose informational content can be considered sufficient for significant phylogenetic reconstruction. The method is based on the comparison of the pairwise genetic distances obtained from a set of sequences of reference to those obtained for different windows of variable size and posit…

Numerical experimental analysis of hybrid double lap aluminum-CFRP joints
2015
Abstract Due to their reliability and ease of assembly, both the adhesively bonded and the mechanical joints are commonly used in different fields of modern industrial design and manufacturing, to joint composite materials or composites with metals. As it is well known, adhesively bonded joints are characterized by high stiffness and good fatigue life, although delamination phenomena localized near the free edges may limit their use, especially for applications where corrosive environments and/or moisture can lead to premature failure of the bonding. In these cases, a possible alternative is given by the well-known mechanical joints. On the contrary, these last joints (bolted, riveted) requ…
