Ivàn Dzjùba, critico letterario e dissidente sovietico, ex ministro della cultura dell’Ucraina indipendente, è uno degli intellettuali più influenti dell’Ucraina contemporanea. Ha dedicato diversi scritti alla situazione linguistico–identitaria del Paese, tra cui anche il presente saggio pubblicato in Ucraina nel 2011, che prende in esame la politica di russificazione attuata nell’Impero russo, poi in URSS, e analizza le conseguenze e i riflessi odierni di questa politica complessa e violenta. Il testo La russificazione in Ucraina è il secondo lavoro di Dzjùba a essere tradotto in italiano, dopo il celebre studio L’oppressione delle nazionalità in URSS (1971).
Investigating Jubaniyah. A Late Chalcolithic site on the Upper Tigris River, Iraqi Kurdistan. Preliminary report

Jubaniyah is a blufftop settlement of 4 hectares set on a terrace overlooking the River Tigris in northern Iraq (Iraqi Kurdistan) demonstrating a significant and almost exclusive occupation during the Late Chalcolithic period (ca. 4800-3000 BC). Besides an agricultural-pastoral orientation, the site presumably also functioned as a central hub in riverine communication and exchange with the hinterland during most of this long period. Set within the catchment area of the Mosul Dam reservoir, Jubaniyah is also one among more than 150 flooded sites which periodically resurface due to the reservoir’s annual or cyclical water fluctuation, thus intermittingly revealing the spolia of their past. The present paper aims at analyzing the unrest of the tribes located in the south of the province of Africa and of the reign of Mauretania, that escaped Roman authority. In particular, the research dwells on the hostilities undertaken by the Gaetulians under the principate of Augustus, such as to determine the intervention of the proconsul of Africa Cossus Cornelius Lentulus, given the magnitude of the bellum and in view of the fact that the king of Mauretania Juba II was unable to quell the con+ict.
