Background Sprint performance is an essential skill to target within soccer, which can be likely achieved with a variety of methods, including different on-field training options. One such method could be heavy resisted sprint training. However, the effects of such overload on sprint performance and the related kinetic changes are unknown in a professional setting. A New Fitness Test of Estimating VO2max in Well-Trained Rowing Athletes

BackgroundThis study was designed to investigate the validity of maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) estimation through the Firstbeat fitness test (FFT) method when using submaximal rowing and running programs for well-trained athletes.MethodsWell-trained flatwater rowers (n = 45, 19.8 ± 3.0 years, 184 ± 8.7 cm, 76 ± 12.9 kg, and 58.7 ± 6.0 mL⋅kg–1⋅min–1) and paddlers (n = 45, 19.0 ± 2.5 years, 180 ± 7.7 cm, 74 ± 9.4 kg, and 59.9 ± 4.8 mL⋅kg–1⋅min–1) completed the FFT and maximal graded exercise test (GXT) programs of rowing and running, respectively. In this article, I explore the spiritual dimensions of running. I draw on theological and existential perspectives, athletic career research as well as post-sport ideologies to construct a multi-voiced representation of the spiritual meanings of endurance running current in Finnish running culture(s). Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten juoksuharrastusta representoidaan ruotsinkielisissä juoksublogeissa. Aineistona toimi 131 blogikirjoitusta, jotka on julkaistu kolmen taustoiltaan ja juoksutottumuksiltaan erilaisen juoksuharrastajan blogeissa tammi–kesäkuussa 2015. Tutkimuksen teoreettisena viitekehyksenä toimivat Giddensin ja Schillingin sosiologiset teoriat, joiden mukaan ruumis on myöhäismodernissa yhteiskunnassa elävälle ihmiselle projekti, jota toteuttamalla ihminen rakentaa identiteettiään. Effects of medially posted insoles on foot and lower limb mechanics across walking and running in overpronating men.

Anti-pronation orthoses, like medially posted insoles (MPI), have traditionally been used to treat various of lower limb problems. Yet, we know surprisingly little about their effects on overall foot motion and lower limb mechanics across walking and running, which represent highly different loading conditions. To address this issue, multi-segment foot and lower limb mechanics was examined among 11 over-pronating men with normal (NORM) and MPI insoles during walking (self-selected speed 1.70 +/- 0.19 m/s vs 1.72 +/- 0.20 m/s, respectively) and running (4.04 +/- 0.17 m/s vs 4.10 +/- 0.13 m/s, respectively). Evaluation of nocturnal vs. morning measures of heart rate indices in young athletes

Purpose The purpose of this study was to compare heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability in young endurance athletes during nocturnal sleep and in the morning; and to assess whether changes in these values are associated with changes in submaximal running (SRT) and counter-movement jump (CMJ) performance. It is caused by a mutation in the gene coding protein called dystrophin leading to premature death and significantly impairing the quality of life of DMD patients.
