Oxidovanadium(V) amine bisphenolates as epoxidation, sulfoxidation and catechol oxidation catalysts

2017

Air-stable oxidovanadium(V) complexes with tetradentate amine bisphenolate ligands were made by the reaction of VOSO4·xH2O and ligand precursors in MeOH solutions. Isolated compounds were studied as catechol oxidase models as well as catalysts for epoxidation and sulfoxidation reactions. All compounds can catalyse such oxidation reactions without notable structure-activity correlations. The 51V NMR studies indicate that the complexes turn to the number of different species during the catalytic experiments. peerReviewed

Towards Atomically Precise Supported Catalysts from Monolayer‐Protected Clusters: The Critical Role of the Support

2020

Abstract Controlling the size and uniformity of metal clusters with atomic precision is essential for fine‐tuning their catalytic properties, however for clusters deposited on supports, such control is challenging. Here, by combining X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations, it is shown that supports play a crucial role in the evolution of monolayer‐protected clusters into catalysts. Based on the acidic nature of the support, cluster‐support interactions lead either to fragmentation of the cluster into isolated Au–ligand species or ligand‐free metallic Au0 clusters. On Lewis acidic supports that bind metals strongly, the latter transformation occurs while pre…

2016

The syntheses of the alkanolamine N(CH2CMe2OH)2(CMe2CH2OH) (1), of the stannatrane N(CH2CMe2O)2(CMe2CH2O)SnO-t-Bu (2), and of the trinuclear tin oxocluster 3 consisting of the two isomers [(μ3-O)(O-t-Bu){Sn(OCH2CMe2)(OCMe2CH2)2N}3] (3a) and [(μ3-O)(μ3-O-t-Bu){Sn(OCH2CMe2)(OCMe2CH2)2N}3] (3b) as well as the isolation of a few crystals of the hexanuclear tin oxocluster [LSnOSn(OH)3LSnOH]2 [L = N(CH2CMe2O)2(CMe2CH2O)] (4) are reported. The compounds were characterized by 1H, 13C, 15N, and 119Sn (1–3) nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (1–4). A graph set analysis was performed for compoun…

Identification and H(D)-bond energies of C-H(D)Cl interactions in chloride-haloalkane clusters: a combined X-ray crystallographic, spectroscopic, and…

2016

The cationic (1,3,5-triazapentadiene)Pt(II) complex [Pt{NH[double bond, length as m-dash]C(N(CH2)5)N(Ph)C(NH2)[double bond, length as m-dash]NPh}2]Cl2 ([]Cl2) was crystallized from four haloalkane solvents giving [][Cl2(CDCl3)4], [][Cl2(CHBr3)4], [][Cl2(CH2Cl2)2], and [][Cl2(C2H4Cl2)2] solvates that were studied by X-ray diffraction. In the crystal structures of [][Cl2(CDCl3)4] and [][Cl2(CHBr3)4], the Cl(-) ion interacts with two haloform molecules via C-DCl(-) and C-HCl(-) contacts, thus forming the negatively charged isostructural clusters [Cl(CDCl3)2](-) and [Cl(CHBr3)2](-). In the structures of [][Cl2(CH2Cl2)2] and [][Cl2(C2H4Cl2)2], cations [](2+) are linked to a 3D-network by a syste…

Localization of alkali metal ions in sodium-promoted palladium catalysts as studied by low energy ion scattering and transmission electron microscopy

1996

Three series of palladium-based catalysts have been studied by Low Energy Ion Scattering (LEIS) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The first series is comprised of Na-Pd/SiO{sub 2} catalysts, obtained by addition of palladium to a silica support and by further addition of sodium ions with a Na/Pd atomic ratio (R) equal to 0,6.4 and 25.6. The second series consists of palladium catalysts supported on natural pumice, in which, due to a different loading of supported palladium, R{prime}, the (Na+K)/Pd atomic ratio, is equal to 17.0 and 39.4. The third series is represented by two palladium-based catalysts supported on {open_quotes}model pumices,{close_quotes} synthetic silico-aluminat…

Interactions of a Diplumbyne with Dinuclear Transition Metal Carbonyls to Afford Metalloplumbylenes

2020

The metathesis reactions of the diplumbyne AriPr6PbPbAriPr6 (AriPr6 = −C6H3–2,6-(C6H2–2,4,6-iPr3)2) with the dinuclear metal carbonyls Mn2(CO)10, Fe2(CO)9, and Co2(CO)8 under mild conditions afforded the complexes Mn(CO)5(PbAriPr6) (1), Fe(CO)4(PbAriPr6)2 (2), and Co4(CO)9(PbAriPr6)2 (3), respectively. Complexes 1–3 were structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and spectroscopically characterized by 1H, 13C{1H}, 59Co{1H}, and 207Pb{1H} NMR; UV–vis; and IR methods. They are rare examples of species formed by the direct reaction of a group 14 dimetallyne with transition metal carbonyls. Complexes 1 and 2 feature Mn–Pb or Fe–Pb single bonds, whereas in 3 a Co–Pb cluster i…

Alkali Blues: Blue‐Emissive Alkali Metal Pyrrolates

2019

2-Iminopyrroles [HtBu L, 4-tert-butyl phenyl(pyrrol-2-ylmethylene)amine] are non-fluorescent π systems. However, they display blue fluorescence after deprotonation with alkali metal bases in the solid state and in solution at room temperature. In the solid state, the alkali metal 2-imino pyrrolates, M(tBu L), aggregate to dimers, [M(tBu L)(NCR)]2 (M=Li, R=CH3 , CH(CH3 )CNH2 ), or polymers, [M(tBu L)]n (M=Na, K). In solution (solv=CH3 CN, DMSO, THF, and toluene), solvated, uncharged monomeric species M(tBu L)(solv)m with N,N'-chelated alkali metal ions are present. Due to the electron-rich pyrrolate and the electron-poor arylimino moiety, the M(tBu L) chromophore possesses a low-energy intra…

The hetero-cubane structures of the heavy alkali metal tert-amyloxides [MOCMe2Et]4 (M = K, Rb, Cs)

2018

A series of alkali metal (Li–Cs) alkoxides of tert-pentanol (1,1-dimethylpropan-1-ol) have been prepared by reaction of the corresponding metal with the alcohol in n-hexane or n-heptane. The compounds were purified by vacuum sublimation and crystallised in n-hexane to produce crystals suitable for single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The structures of the potassium, rubidium, and caesium compounds revealed tetrameric units with additional intra- and intermolecular interactions between the metal atom and alkoxide methyl groups, increasing with the size of the metal involved.

Reactions in the presence of irradiated semiconductors: Are they simply photocatalytic?

2018

A generally accepted classification distinguishes semiconductor photocatalysis in type A and type B. The first class comprehends reactions where the primary redox products (radical anions and cations) further evolve giving rise to the final reduced and oxidized species. Type B reactions occur when the primary redox products undergo intermolecular bond formation to addition products. Recently, some photocatalytic reactions have been reported wherein the photocatalytically produced compounds are not the final products. In fact, they react in the solution bulk or catalytically on the surface of the semiconductor with other species thus producing the target compounds. These reactions, hereby re…
