Sand Play for 0–8-Year-Old Children’s Health and Development: A Systematic Review Protocol
2021
Sand play may be a significant determinant of health and development in early childhood, but systematically synthesised evidence is absent in the literature. The main objective of this study was to present a planned methodology to systematically review, and synthesise, the evidence regarding sand play and its associations with 0–8-year-old children’s health and development. The systematic review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocols statement was registered to PROSPERO (CRD42021253852). Literature searches will be conducted using information from eight electronic databases. Studies will be included when participating children were aged 0–…

"Joku on oikeasti elänyt täällä" : Keski-Suomen museon käsityöläiskodit menneen ajan representaationa
2011
Pro gradu -tutkielmani aihe on menneisyyden representoiminen museotoiminnassa. Esimerkkinä museaalisesta representaatiosta tarkastelen Keski-Suomen museon käsityöläiskotimuseota (1956) ja niihin rakennettua näyttelyä 1950- ja 60-luvuilla. Käytän sanoja representoida ja esittää samassa merkityksessä. Tutkimusongelmani pääkysymys kuuluu: millainen näyttely Keski-Suomen museon käsityöläiskotimuseoon rakennettiin ensimmäisen siirron jälkeen ja mitä käsityöläiskotimuseon näyttely esitti? Vaikka representaatio-käsite on tutkimukseni keskeinen osa, en tee kuitenkaan representaatiotutkimusta. Tarkastelen käsityöläiskotinäyttelyä kulttuurisena ja taiteellisena luomuksena, joka on ihmisen tekemä, jon…

Pop-Up Architecture as Urban Regeneration
2016
Recent ideas in urban planning, conceptualized e.g., as New Urbanism, emphasize the humane point of view of the city. The focus of these ideas is on the citizens and their experiences of feeling comfortable and at home in the urban space; people´s possibilities of spending leisure time in the city centre; and enabling the encounter of different people in the city space in order to bring the inner city to life. To revitalize the less used, unused, or decayed city spaces by using them as venues for diverse cultural activities is a part of these ideas. The means of urban regeneration often rely on ambitious and permanent transformations of the urban space, such as constructing cultural infrast…

Does goal orientation relate to changes in sports club participation from adolescence to early adulthood?
2022
Background Sports club participation begins to decrease in adolescence. There is a lack of knowledge, how sports club participation changes from adolescence to early adulthood in Finland, and how goal orientation influences on it. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine if goal orientation is associated to changes in sports club participation during afore mentioned critical years. Methods The study design is longitudinal. A sample of 366 (140 boys, 226 girls) adolescents were followed from age 15 (year 2014) to age 19 (year 2018). Sports club participation (yes/no) and goal orientation (no competitive goal, sports for hobby or physical development/regional, national or international …
Contrasts in fitness, motor competence and physical activity among children involved in single or multiple sports
2021
Abstract Study aim: While there is wide debate around specialization in one sport, there is a lack of information about fitness levels and motor competence of children participating in single or multiple sports. Material and methods: The study involved 358 fifth-grade children who participated in a set of health-related fitness and motor competence tests over two consecutive years. A subsample of children (n = 109) wore an accelerometer for seven consecutive days. The independent samples t-test and ANCOVA were used to compare differences between single and multi-sport participants in study variables and changes between baseline and follow-up. Results: Multi-sport participants performed bett…
