The study examines how the banks have communicated with their private,-and corporate customers during the crisis in relation to Coombs ́ theory about crisis communication. Den tidligere langrennsløperen hadde lagt opp som toppidrettsutøver, men befant seg fremdeles i en særskilt posisjon som forretningsmann og medieprofil da han ble stoppet i fartskontroll den 13. august. Samtidig fant politiet kokain hjemme hos han. Dagen etterpå innrømmet Northug hendelsene i et innlegg på Instagram og Facebook. Saken eksploderte i mediene.
