An invasive species may be better than none: invasive signal and native noble crayfish have similar community effects

2014

14 pages; International audience; Human activities have resulted in the decline of native crayfish and promoted the spread of invasive crayfish species in European fresh waters, threatening ecosystem structure and functioning. We compared effects of native noble crayfish (Astacus astacus), invasive signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) and of the absence of crayfish on leaf litter breakdown and invertebrate prey density and biomass in stream ecosystems. In microcosm experiments, invertebrate shredder density was significantly reduced by crayfish presence but similarly affected by the two crayfish species. While crayfish did not directly influence leaf litter breakdown, their presence r…

Ethnocentrism Effects on Consumers’ Behavior during COVID-19 Pandemic

2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has upset everyone’s normal daily activities, generating psychiatric disorders and changing consumers’ preferences. Among others, the agri-food sector has experienced strong changes and, during the lockdown period, Italian consumers modified their purchasing habits in response to the fear and uncertainty generated by the spread of the virus. In order to find out the main consequences of the shock suffered during the period and to understand which factors have affected purchasing choices, an online survey was conducted on 286 Italian consumers. The results show that ethnocentrism has been the factor that most has influenced consumers’ behavior during the lockdown period…

Rational solutions to the KdV equation depending on multi-parameters

2021

We construct multi-parametric rational solutions to the KdV equation. For this, we use solutions in terms of exponentials depending on several parameters and take a limit when one of these parameters goes to 0. Here we present degenerate rational solutions and give a result without the presence of a limit as a quotient of polynomials depending on 3N parameters. We give the explicit expressions of some of these rational solutions.

Degenerate Riemann theta functions, Fredholm and wronskian representations of the solutions to the KdV equation and the degenerate rational case

2021

International audience; We degenerate the finite gap solutions of the KdV equation from the general formulation given in terms of abelian functions when the gaps tend to points, to get solutions to the KdV equation given in terms of Fredholm determinants and wronskians. For this we establish a link between Riemann theta functions, Fredholm determinants and wronskians. This gives the bridge between the algebro-geometric approach and the Darboux dressing method. We construct also multi-parametric degenerate rational solutions of this equation.

Use of cultured human epithelium for coverage: a defect of radial forearm free flap donor site

2010

The radial forearm free flap has been popular in many areas of reconstructive surgery. Despite the many attributes of this flap in maxillofacial reconstruction, one of the disadvantages has been the morbidity of the donor site. Allogeneic cultured epidermis has been successfully applied on large second degree burns and on chronic leg ulcers. Autologous human keratinocytes and fibroblast equivalents can be cultured in-vitro from a small skin sample in order to produce a sufficient amount of epithelial autografts to cover the large defects of third-degree burn wounds. Interestingly, transplanted cultured epidermis retains characteristics of the original donor site. We report a case of a patie…

Downregulation of KLF8 expression by shRNA induces inhibition of cell proliferation in CAL27 human oral cancer cells

2013

Objectives: KLF8 is a member of KLF transcription factors which play an important tolr in oncogenesis. It is barely expressed in normal human epithelial cells but highly overexpressed in several types of human cancer cell lines. In the present study, we investigate the role of KLF8 in oral cancer and the effects of KLF8 knockdown via lentivirus mediated siRNA infection in human adenosquamos carcinoma CAL 27 cells. Kurzemes muižniecības ikdienas dzīves problēmu raksturojums 1795.-1905.gadā

2022

The role of NG2 and OPC in induction and development of CNS inflammation

2014

encephalitis (EAE) mouse models (J Neurosci 31:669, 2011; Brain 136:1760, 2013). Further, it has been shown that in addition to infiltrating leukocytes, astrocytes and microglia also exhibit high expression of EMMPRIN in diseased brain. EMMPRIN has been reported to interact with monocarboxylate transporter-1 (MCT-1) in astrocytes; the lattermediates lactate transport to neurons. Given that perturbation in energymetabolism can have catastrophic effects on homeostasis of the brain, it is paramount to understand EMMPRIN expression in astrocytes in normal andMS brain. We have used human fetal astrocytes (HFA) and determined their EMMPRIN levels by flow cytometry and microscopy. We found that HFA…

Immunochemical method for penthiopyrad detection through thermodynamic and kinetic characterization of monoclonal antibodies.

2021

Immunoassays are nowadays being employed for rapid contaminant analysis in clinical, environmental, and agrochemical samples. A thorough characterization of the antibody‒antigen interaction can bring light to the immunoreagent selection process in order to develop sensitive and robust tests. Thus, determination of equilibrium and reaction rate constants is usually recommendable. However, this can be quite tricky for low molecular weight compounds, and competitive strategies are commonly followed to estimate apparent affinity values. In the present study, a collection of monoclonal antibodies to penthiopyrad was raised for the first time, and apparent equilibrium constants were assessed by t…
